If he's 28 and did 12 years service that means he would have enlisted at age 16.
I thought you had to be 18.

So says the one who does Terry's laundry...you seem to have an abnormal imagination...Originally Posted by jizzybloke

Most young(ish) folk I met in Bangkok who were not qualified in any meaningful sense seemed to me to be dreamers hanging onto a precarious existence and motivated solely by the belief they had no future in their own countries.
Escapism as a methodology for life tends to yield little fruit but, certainly, running away to Thailand with a few bob in one's pocket and expecting something to turn up is just plain silly.
Any service he did before the age of 18 does not count in his future pension. One can join the UK military at 16 with parental consent.
Thegent, I think that that quote applies to a lot of elderly folk trying to make it here also.Originally Posted by thegent

you better believe it, skint is an understatement.
I hear it is pretty cheap in the south.
I spend time down south visit Mae Lan quite a lot not much to spend money on down there. Nearest places for a night out Yaha,Pattani and Yala.Hard to find a decent bottle of gin might find some tonic in the 7/11 near Yala railway station.
Nice jungle to go fruit picking durian, longan, rambutan can even find Sataw.
Certainly be able to save money living down south.
If you donīt have a certificate who could proof about that you are teacher, better forget it than. In my mind, time is over for peoples who can speak english and want to teach in Thailand without any certificate.
Too many have this romantic notion of living in the sun in total luxury, whilst getting sucked off and drinking as much as they want. These folks tend to seek out tefl-ing work when they are down to the final Ģ1000 and can't get home or have some clingy bargirl leech GF leading them to have that scruffy I'd teach anywhere appearance. When their last Ģ1000 or so runs out, they have this existence on maybe 25k a month and become bitter and hate Thailand. I've seen it a thousand times. Many guys like this when they first arrive will jolly it up nightly, will buy you drinks, buy the girls drinks and believe they have hit 'paradise'
The tefl-ing market is too crowded with these losers, give up and just have a long vacation.
maybe so, those peoples will have to think hard about their lifes and statisticOriginally Posted by wolfman
Another reason to avoid long term residence without a holiday first is to look at the poor quality of girls that now work in the bars.
I mean, Stickman is a long term resident but look at the state of this weeks 'girl of the week'
