    Watching satellite TV in Thailand

Is the problem satallite TV or True Visions or Thailand?

I've been trying to follow the World Swimming Championships on True Visions tonight (Monday) but have given up because of the poor picture due to the bad weather and signal/reception.

Is this problem experienced by satellite users throughout the world or is it a problem experienced by the customers of True Visions or by users only in Thailand?

Tonght's experience is not the only time it's happened - Rugby Union World Cup Final in 2010 and the first match of the State of Origin 2013 were other instances that signal/reception was affected.

True Visions is now on really limited time as they no longer have the EPL (I'm still waiting for someone from TD to help me with advice about viewing EPL and keeping Setanta for rugby from next month onwards - don't suggest Astro or CTH as their websites are not helpful).

Have you checked your antenna for obstructions and proper alignment (the cap on the end of it where the coax cable attaches could also be ready to be replaced)? I had the guys from True out to the house a couple weeks ago, and it turned out that a bush had grown large enough to interfere with the signal.

I never have problems unless the weather is really bad, and, if that's what's causing your issue, there isn't much that can be done.
There he goes. One of God's own prototypes. A high-powered mutant of some kind never even considered for mass production. Too weird to live, and too rare to die.

True uses Ku band satellite transponders. Ku band is susceptible to rain fade. Heavy rain and signal is lost. This time of year solar flares cause communication satellite outage.

In short, rainy season plus solar flare season make for crap reception.

As Failsafe notes check your dish for obstruction.

True not the only ones with probs. Several tropical countries same, same.

You could maybe see what GMM has to offer for sport. They have the English league cup games and Bundesliga but obviously not the EPL matches. So they're no good for me.

Their set-up requires you to buy the set-box from 7-11 at 1,200b and you install it yourself. Apparently it uses your aerial to receive signals so maybe the reception might be better at times when your satellite reception is poor.

GMM's program packages requires that you buy cards every month to insert into the set-box for the package that you want. I think they're priced at 200, 400 and 1,200b.

The weather has always been an issue here, all 'dishes' lose their reception when the weather is bad.
I rang CTH the other day and they were here in the afternoon, all fitted and a lot cheaper than Lying vision!

So what sort of a deal did you get with CTH? Do they cover all EPL games? Do they cover rugby union and league? What's their general knowledge channels (like BBC Knowledge, Discovery, etc)?

Maybe I'll try with CTH's webpage again.

    Thanks

It's got all the EPL and a few othr half decent channels.

I got a package whereby I've got two boxes and can watch independantly.
Think the single package with everything is 999 baht per month.
Anyway, as far as I'm concerned it's the only way to watch EPL.

Charley, can you please let me know the number or contact of CTH in Cha Am? I want to cancel True and get CTH for our condo in Cha Am if possible before the start of the EPL.

Do they also offer the cable option or satellite only?

    Thanks.

^ If you've got the local 'Charley cable' go and see them. You'll get a discount, or so I've been told from a mate who has it and lives in Sport Village.
    Alternatively, ring this number : 08399 14677.
    Hope this helps.

C'mon Charley, this is your company, right? State an interest..?

Just kidding, a mate of mine has this installed over a week now, and says he is very happy with it so far. All available in English, if a little too "Fox"-dominated.

Available in English?? Is there a audio button ( as there is on the true system) on the CTH remote that allows you to change languages or is it that some channels come through in Thai and some channels come through in English. The reason I ask is I have been told that the EPL will not be available in English on CTH by someone who runs a sat company in BKK, but I cant believe he is right. Thanks in advance.

As for the issue about the commentry, we'll have to wait and see.
Please God, let there be English commentary.

Anyway, AFAIK there is no alternative.
