Why do people come here if they don't like it?

There is a guy bleating about the safety of trucks and buses.

Got me thinking. Why do these people. who don't like Thailand and keep criticising and complaining, come to Thailand in the first place?

If they want to change the world wouldn't they have a better chance by running for political office in their own country?

    I say "vive la différence"
Better to think inside the pub, than outside the box?
I apologize if any offence was caused. unless it was intended.
You people, you think I know feck nothing; I tell you: I know feck all

Everything in life black and white to you? Can't someone find a lot of things to like, and a few they don't?

Why is there some implicit assumption that you cannot comment on the things you don't like?

    Seems weird to me.

A few people actually enjoy living here, but post negative stuff on here to either vent, rant, or just for shitz 'n giggles. No biggie.

I agree, but there's also another kind of poster who wait in the wings to tell those who dont appreciate Thailands warts and all, to politely fock off home if you dont like it.

You cant judge a country immediately and things take time. Unfortunately reality doesn't set in until the 'rose coloured' glasses come off and it all hits home. One is by then committed and has to live with it. No harm in moaning anyway. It's what us farangs do best. It's part of our culture. Whereas Thais................

The "if you don't like it here, piss off!" approach is not the solution. Everyone has a right to express an opinion - it's just that some express their opinions based on emotional reactions to situations without a great deal of thought, whilst others express the same opinions but base them on reasonable premises.

What does sometimes annoy me is that some people are constantly overly negative when it comes to anything to do with Thailand and fail to balance this negativity with some positives that the country has. I think most places, even our home countries, have some negatives and positives and it's wise to recognise both but not be consumed by either.

I think the OP was referring to an item commenting on the Saraburi bus crash. In this particular case, it is/was a matter of health and safety, and I don't think the "if you don't like it here, piss off" attitude is warranted in this instance.

All of us (Thais and non-Thais) should not be criticised or denied the right to comment on an issue that all of us (Thais and non-Thais) have to deal with on a daily basis. I think that the "...piss off" reaction to suggestions that Thailand has some ground to make up in the area of health and safety is unreasonable in this case.

    Probably true.

Maybe all the whining and complaining is more prevalent now there is "social media" to act as a conduit.

I asked my wife about the Saraburi bus accident. She said she doesn't live in Saraburi.

    Just a Thai persective.

I fully understand that not everyone will like everything about Thailand , of course not everyone will like everything and they have the right to vent their feelings .
But some people seem to dislike everything about Thailand , well, not dislike, but hate everything about Thailand .
If it was their own Country of origin, I could understand them having to stay , but as they came here out of choice, what reason do they stay here for?
If I ever get to the stage of hating Thailand, I will simply move somewhere else and hopefully find a place that I enjoy living in.
I just wonder why people stay here if they are so unhappy living here

Some people travel because they are unhappy where they are, and keep on traveling, without ever realizing that the problem is not with others but with themselves.

And as you say, misery loves company.

This post is a blast from the past for me. It's the reason I got banned from the TV Phuket forum several times. People incessantly moaning about everything, then I'd moan about their moaning, then theyd moan about my moaning about their moaning. And so I'd get the boot for disruption.

There's nothing wrong with a little moan or pointing out what you don't like now and then, but when it's all day every day then there's something wrong with you IMO. Your life must be pretty shit if you moved halfway around the world to a place where you can't think of anything better to do each day, than moan about the place on a forum.

I personally find it highly tedious.

    GOT YOU THINKING?

    I very much doubt it.

Your post seems to me more like the knee jerk reaction of a brain washed moron.

Brian Stocks was not "bleating", he mentioned the tragic deaths of 19 people and put forward suggestions which might prevent more such incidents.

He may be naive expecting such sensible proposals being put into action in this medieval society, but he's only been here a short while.

You two seem eminently suited, she having been raised to accept and you having been trained to do so.

I suggest you're the one who should pack your bags and leave, before you lose all sense of right and wrong.

I asked my wife about the Saraburi bus accident. She said she doesn't live in Saraburi.
that just about sums it all up.

thais float around in bubbles of indifference, with little interest in the world beyond their soi.

compare the saraburi crash with the spanish train crash.

    spain.
3 days of national mourning, hotels in the town offering free accommodation to relatives of the deceased and injured, visits by "important people" to the site, and a nationwide public outcry. investigation teams descending on to the site to try and find out what happened. these little things, individually unimportant, focus the minds, bring the public together and make it harder for the authorities to avoid the issues at stake.

    saraburi
8 lines in the bangkok post, a paragraph in the thai press, and thats it.
within 12 hours of the saraburi bus crash someone had sent me pictures of scrap metal scavengers tearing the bus to bits and carting off anything of value. remember the lauda air crash in kanchanaburi where rescue workers couldnt get to the site because local scavengers were sifting through the luggage.

It's always right to complain. I bet not too far back in farang history in Thailand some folks would defend their 'right' to being a pedo, calling blacks n***s, beating up gays, abusing the tribal people in the countryside for 'stability', etc. We seem to be in better days than those but are we really. Moan, complain, just say what you think because those who oppose your ideas will always be there to defend or even cheer the wrongs, failures, crimes, injustices and all of it. Speaking up is doing the right thing. It's also the only way the poor Thais get the slightest justice in this nation.

Obsession with death is a relatively new phenomenon. Not sure it's all that healthy to be honest. Horses for courses. Because the culture is very different doesn't automatically make it very wrong.

thai funerals can last for up to 7 days. if that isnt an obsession then i dont know what is but it i think it aids the natural grieving process.

Thailand like most everywhere I have been is not perfect. There are some things I wish were different

So if I am to understand correctly I should not complain about anything as I was not born here?

    Sorry but I respectfully disagree
