New ID card for married foreigners ?

Was chatting to my neighbour who was adamant that a NEW law had been passed entitling foreigners who are married to Thai to some type of ID card .Not the pink Id for people such as hilltribe or workers from Cambodia or Laos.Any TD member heard of such a thing? Cheers

You can utilize the Government Hospital System for a very nominal sum.

Take out various contracts in your name vs a 3rd party (Thai) or your Thai wife's name.

I'm in my wife's blue book.
I thought the yellow book was for foreigner's
who were not related to Thai nationals.

    No, not Thai.
My wife owned the home years before we were married.
It's her home and land and she is Thai.
She told me she had my name added.
When making previous applications for my Non O and Non B, photocopies
of the blue book are used to support the visa application.
I wouldn't even be able to apply for a yellow book because
    I don't own a residence.

I don't own a residence but I still have a 'Yellow Book'. If a farang can have their name in a 'Blue Book' then why have the 'Yellow Book'?

Being told that, and it actually being true are 2 different things. It'll be in Thai and chances are you can't read Thai.

May be wrong and will ask the wife when she gets home, but I think a farangs name does appear in the blue book. Not as a resident, but the father of any children listed in the book. He wouldn't even have to be living there.
Will get back if we can find the book. Jim

I have children, but still had to get the 'Yellow Book'. And my name is in the 'Blue Book'. My wife's checking out why, now.

Telephone contracts, purchase of vehicles in your name only - the list goes on. It gives the Farang a bit more independence.

Because I'm the father of the children named in it, so I'm told.

My wife's been checking with the Ampur and they told her a farang can be entered in a 'Blue Book' after living here 5 years.

I doubt there are many expats living in Thailand who can't read their own name in Thai. It's one of the most basic things you need to know.

Well I am on it. I know because I had to go get an affidavit notorized at the US embassy saying I live in my house. Cost 50 bucks. At that time 7 years of reporting where I lived was not enough.

Maybe thats why I always have to cosign loans for land purchases.

This thing about farangs not being entered in the Thor Ror 14 (Blue Tabien Baan) is just another example of the Farang Mythology about living in Thailand, it's incorrect yet this myth is constantly peddled by farangs here.

Under Thai law any foreigner married to a Thai must have his or her name entered in the TR14 for the marital residence. By extension, although not required, it is normal for a Farang, married or not, who is the parent of a Thai child and is noted on the Birth Certifcate as being the parent of that child to also have his or her name entered into the Thai Partner's Tabien Baan. This is done when the Thai parent has the child's name added to the Tabien Baan.

So DrBob am I right in thinking that if my name is in the Blue Book then there is/was no reason to obtain a Yellow Book? Can I use the Blue Book for the same things as a Yellow Book?

You are incorrect, DrBob. Which Thai law are you relying on? My then de-facto wife and our eldest child were entered into the blue book when I built our house 17 years ago. I was not included on it. Our second child was born 5 years later and added to it. I was still not added to it. We married legally some 3-5 years ago - I was still not added to the book. I later requested addition to the book in order to benefit from the Gold Card universal health care and was provided with a yellow book.

Permanent Residents are entitled to entry in the blue book, others are generally not, though many are included through a lack of knowledge on the part of a very few district officers.
