↑UK beaches are great walking beaches. Thai beaches not so much maybe, but still can be pleasant in places.

Indeed, anything to take your mind off thinking, eh?

Hobbies and pastimes are simply occupations filling in the time while your life fritters away but then, for most, that is the purpose of life, to find meaning where none exists.

Boredom is repetition delivering dwindling satisfaction when the outcome offers no interest or gratification.

Life is boredom but many are too stupid to realise it.

Thailand is perhaps the most tedious place I have ever experienced. But then, even the best jokes pall after the umpteenth time of telling and beyond the absurd, the frivolous, and the idiotic, this country has little else to offer anyone not engaged in the pursuit of the ephemeral.

Are you talking about hunting animals (vs. bargirls)? If so, I'm interested in what you hunt and how you hunt it. My Thai BIL shoots cranes that land in his fish pond and try to eat his fish. He then gives them to a neighbor who (I suspose) eats them.

I know some of the hill tribes hunt wild boar with dogs, but I never heard of a falong hunting in Thailand (for animals that is).

Have gone hunting in the jungle with members of the family, but they shoot anything that moves, no monkeys left in the low lands from the mountains.
The only thing I want to shoot is the chickens in our open air kitchen.

Try to tell everybody, if you kill all the animals there will be no animals left, may as well talk to the wall.
Forestry and border soldiers are trying to crack down on outsiders, but it's a big jungle and very little education for the locals who think the mountains will always have food. Jim

So intelligent people are bored shitless 24/7

    Great theory.

What is the meaning of life? To have as much fucking fun as you can while it lasts.

Although there is plenty to do, many things have gotten so expensive that I don't want to spend the money (I am by nature a cheap engineer, and spending $80.00 USD to see a so-so performance is not worth the money to me).

The mid-day sun can get oppressive at times. That's why I enjoy going out and about during the early mornings and late afternoons. As for mid-day, Trane rules!

Traffic isn't so bad after 8pm when people are going out and big cities have ferries and trains to catch so it's not much a of problem. There's so many bars and restaurants to try.

In a small town you can experience it all in 1 week

Small towns need a great beach or great fishing or something like that otherwise they have nothing but quiet.

Yea i do, birds mostly, foxs and wabbits too
off course i do carry a fire arm for shooting, not spear and arrow, yes it is against the law for a falong to carry a fire weapon, but thanks to my familys connection i get away with it.
and yes i do eat it,

What is a (crane that lands in the pond)?

A thread about boredom that starts off with a statement that the OP doesn't get bored. A fitting companion piece to arguing about falang vs farang vs fuckin falong.

Previously when I felt the onset of boredom I could immerse my self in my hobby of building model boats. Now my hands and eyesight are failing so I switched to mastering autocad. These days even auto acad, fails to keep my attention for long, so a quick browse on U tube finds some intellectual amusement attention.

So I was wondering how many falongs who have lived in Thailand for more than 2 or 3 months, consider their lives in Thailand boring?

I spoke to a guy on a bus a while back, who had lived in a small village in Central Thailand for the last 4 years. He stated that he was bored senseless.

I also noticed that some of the long running threads on this forum seem to be mostly efforts to avoid boredom (i.e. How many people are really fascinated by a 4-month long thread giving a blow-by-blow description of plastering a wall?).

I don't get bored (usually) in Thailand because I read a lot and love learning (plants, animals, skill sets, etc). I also do consulting work that takes me to other countries for a few months out of every year.

So how do you deal with boredom? Or do you not find living in Thailand boring?

    RickThai
Was very bored when I lived in Taphan Hin, Phichit for six months. Six years on I can't remember now how I dealt with it. During the 6 months I lived in Taphan Hin I only saw one foreigner and he was French. After moving to Ban Phe, Rayong I helped an Aussie friend with his Noni Juice business, did work on his farm and helped out with his bar. Six months later moved to Pattaya and got a TEFLer gig for two years. I don't drink and don't really have any hobbies so I guess getting the teaching gig was how I dealt with the boredom.

Overall I suppose, yes, my three years in Thailand was boring for the most part. Maybe boring isn't the right word ... Maybe tranquil is better? Fine line between being unhappy, tranquil and bored I suppose.

I can empathize with feeling bored in Thailand. Living in Chiang Mai can be inspiring, but you can also get into a groove. It's easy to constantly be doing the same things, eating at the same places and seeing the same people. We are creatures of habit.

The best way for me to reignite my creativity and infuse my life with some excitement is a road trip. I pick a place that I think will be cool and plan a weekend (or longer) trip - then I just hop on my motorbike and go!

You end up meeting a lot of interesting people and interacting with Thailand in ways that're outside of your normal routine. If I'm feeling bored and need to get moving immediately - I just head up to Doi Suthep for some mountain trekking or a swim in the waterfalls

I feel if you have at least a little imagination and perhaps more importantly, money in your pocket, it goes an awful long way in alleviating boredom. Then I don't think it matters where you are.

Although i have a pretty hectic lifestyle at the minute, i'm fortunate to have a very good and well paid job here in Thailand. If, on say a Friday we have nothing planned for a weekend, instead of just sitting around we jump in the car and head off to Koh Chang straight after my daughter finishes school or sometimes closer to hand (i'm in Pattaya) perhaps just a hotel around Rayong beaches. Same goes for school holidays, we upsticks and head off somewhere new or go back and visit friends in Singapore.

Also, many things to do and places to go around Pattaya without hooring or drinking (although i do like that on the odd occasion i get a gate pass out with my friends too)

I'm sure a fair few guys are in this situation, and this isn't meant as a put down in any way. But for me, to be living in the sticks or Nackhon Nowhere, eking out a living and having to watch every satang would be a form purgatory before i even left this mortal coil. Mind, it may be better than barely existing whilst sat in a freezing flat in the UK to see out your years, but i'm not sure, at least you could speak to the people around you and at least have a conversation.

Imagination does play a big part in combatting boredom but more often than not a few bucks in your pocket does wonders.

Yep, having money, imagination and doing road trips leaves no room for boredom.

On the other hand living in Nakon Nowhere on a poxy pension is a slow lingering death but much better than living in a flat in blighty.

The difference is having the money to be able to choose your different avenue of a attack to make your life happy.

Some people say money does not buy happiness ?????

I say that's a screaming load of shit, give me the money.

    Poor people cannot choose.

the only time I have been really bored for some time was when I worked on seismic boats

as I was the client representative, I had little to do except pretend to make sure the work w2as being done correctly

the other 22 hours I filled in with reading, I read the whole damn library and even some of the Norwegian books

I watched all the videos, I ate all the food, I watched all the sunsets

    god, it was so mindless

arriving in port after eight weeks I was instantly not bored, there were green trees and women everywhere

yes, lots of money, but I have since turned down many similar contracts
    I have reported your post

Usually I get bored when I do something too often, things such as:
    -Gaming (same game all the time gets me bored EVENTUALLY but after a long time);
    -Teaching (bored after 1 day)
-Food (when I eat kana moo krob 5 times a week)

I actually get bored quite quickly, I'm already bored of my rented house so I'm leaving at the end of this week to move back into the village of my wife. The thing I'm most bored of is waiting... like waiting for dinner, class, etc.

When I'm bored I always try something new so I won't be bored for long. When I'm bored of gaming I'll read a book. Bored of reading? I'll probably make some artist impressions. Bored of that too? Maybe gardening, I'll keep myself busy.

//edit: speaking of boredom, my new collegue arrived a few weeks ago from Africa. He has no TV, no internet, no book, knows nobody. I guess that's REAL boredom lol.
