A mate from Bristol has the exclusive agency to brew, market and sell a new award winning British cider in Asia.

I cannot divulge the name of the product just yet but it has less then 4% sugar and will be brewed and bottled in Cambodia because he couldn't find anyone here in Thailand to support him.

    Not a valid comparison.

Sony has a UK operation so they don't need a UK distributor.

Curries is a retailer not a distributor.

Retailers can strike exclusive deals with product manufacturers if they have the muscle. It is still not a monopoly even though it is a different type of non-monopoly from your original non-monopoly.

Good idea. If I were you, I would also forward this thread to Bulmers without delay. When they see your commercial acumen and understanding of business law, I'm sure that Selena bitch will get the sack double-quick.

you're a better taffy than an expat. you're wasting your time.
lets say (snigger) you 'shamed' Bulmers into selling cider to you.
you still couldn't bring it into thailand, because there is an exclusive distributor here.
grey imports are shady at the best of times but in thailand, potentially fatal.

    He mentioned Margaret Thatcher.

Close to the end of her final term in office I attended a Conservative businessmen's meeting. I was already convinced that I would vote labour at the next election but, heck, it was a free meal.

At the end of the meal the party Agent reminded us that there was an election due shortly and informed us that the Party required additional funds to fight a strong Labour candidate. He "suggested" we all open our cheque books and donate £ 400 to party funds. That's each.

The most well-respected businessman in the room rose to his feet and informed the Agent that his grandfather had established his company throughout East Anglia and had died a happy and wealthy man. The company he founded had passed to that man's father who expanded it throughout the UK and, shortly before his death, he had passed the company to the man in the room, who had begun expanding the company throughout Europe.

..... but the Thatcher government had done more damage to his company than anything in the company's history, so he certainly had no intention of handing over £ 400 and would be voting Labour at the next election. You could hear a pin drop.

Ripe you mean? Works with wine, but thought it would be too sweet for a cider.

Just looked it up - apparently apples for cider is only "traditional".

The popular babycham is, in fact a pear cider.

    never knew that.

Booze made from sweet mango would be sickeningly sweet - like the 'wines' made from rambutan and lychee and the like, which is all vile stuff.

Engaging a single partner organisation to perform distribution of your product in an overseas market is not creating a monopoly. It is common business practise in many industries.

Free competition must exist between the product and other similar competing products in the target market but that is not an issue concerning distribution rights of the imported product.[/quote Well I have just emailed the Sun and the monopolies commission so we shall just have to wait and see what they say
Don’t argue with idiots because they will drag you down to their level and then beat you with experience.

exactly, and that happens in the UK too

a friend of mine was the sole importer for a type of brake pad, no-one else could import them

but he then resold them to many garages etc

normal practice; there is then competition between different manufacturers of that type of pad
    I have reported your post

    not necessarily so

if you let the "must" ferment out, all the sugar gets turned to alcohol

same as the others; what they do is stop the fermentation to make a sweet wine

A friend of mine did the same too. Only he was the sole supplier for a brand of hydroponics equipment manufactured in Canada. He had the sole licence to distribute for all of Europe.
