Not quite sure what you are getting at. Be a little more specific.

Prostitution is the business or practice of providing sexual services to another person in return for payment. The person who receives payment for sexual services is called a prostitute or sex worker, and the person who receives such services is known by a multitude of terms. Prostitution is one of the branches of the sex industry. The legal status of prostitution varies from country to country, from being permissible but unregulated, to a punishable crime or to a regulated profession. Estimates place the annual revenue generated from the global prostitution industry to be over $100 billion.[1] Prostitution is sometimes referred to as "the world's oldest profession".[2]
Prostitution occurs in a variety of forms. Brothels are establishments specifically dedicated to prostitution. In escort prostitution, the act may take place at the customer's residence or hotel room (referred to as out-call), or at the escort's residence or in a hotel room rented for the occasion by the escort (called in-call). Another form is street prostitution. Sex tourism refers to travelling, typically from developed to underdeveloped nations, to engage in sexual activity with prostitutes.

so, if someone marries a girl in Thailand, she is the same as a prostitute?Originally Posted by Lorenzo

I have reported your post
^ I'll agree my view is not a positive one. read some international govt. report long ago which used the term is soft prostitution to describe Thailand.
Obviously there are exceptions but generally if you don't pay them they will not stay around. If she ceases to satisfy Kuhn farang the money will stop. Thai style.
Why do you call yourself Dr by the way? More of a snippy little twit you are.

I understand the type of women that you go with need being paid, but a lot of members here have met a different typeOriginally Posted by Lorenzo
maybe that is outside your experience, so never mind, you just keep paying them

I think you need to check your facts there. There are moves to decriminalize prostitution in Taiwan and in the interim the laws have not been enforced for years because they were found to be unconstitutional. And there are certainly more than a "few dozen or so" prostitutes active.
I think there should be a new thread "would you live in Thailand if it was an active volcanic zone?"
much more exciting
Who needs prostitutes, as a mate of mine said, beatiful ladies in Thaland are like pebbles on a beach.

It's still a mystery to me why all those romantic types who "just happened to find the love of their lives" did so in Thailand, and not in Vietnam for instance... It has definitely something to do with the free-pussy-for-all attitude in Thailand. So we can't really tell what would happen if "prostitution" itself was halted, since it's very much of a gray zone here.
“The subject of Thailand is an anathema to Western womanhood. Mention of the T-word evokes almost violent reactions amongst most Western women, who understandably hate the thought of Thailand as it represents an alternative to their control."

I have always wondered why all those romantic types found the love of their lives in Vietnam, Cambodia, India etc, and not ThailandOriginally Posted by MongersSyndicate

Sorry about me horrible speling
I preferred the Fil's to Thailand for mongering. You could actually talk to the women in a common language, and Ermita (in the day) was way more fun than the mercenary Thai sleaze areas.
I first met my wife in India, not Thailand. But she's Thai. Oh, but in a bar and she was scantily clad. A pool bar.
No, I didn't first come to Thailand for the mongering- I came as a backpacker, overlanded up thru Malaya. Beaches, magic mushrooms, weed, and temples. I popped into Patpong once, on my first visit in '82- utterly hated the place. As one would, when you get lured into one of those clip joints.
So one false assumption after another chaps. There is no 'one size fits all' consideration for Thailand, or any other place expats live.
I have never been with a prostitute in Thailand nor have I ever been in a bar room in Thailand. I think Thailand would be a better place with out both.
I have been in lots of bars and always had some fun
boring otherwise
where did you find him
It's been about 4 years since I was in Taipei, but the "girly" bar scene that I encounered in 1972 (similiar to what you find in Pataya, Patong, today) was not to be found. Then there were dozens (if not hundreds) of bars and clubs found on most of the main tourist areas.
I didn't see those 4 years ago, and a web search seems to indicate Taiwan has "mostly" put a halt to rampant and open prostitution.
Maybe you should enlighten us to what your "facts" are based on?
Thanks.
Rick
