Where to find flat bed sheets?

    Hi All,

I recently moved into a condo and bought a bed set for my king size bed from Tesco. To my surprise, there was no top flat sheet. Only a fitted bottom sheet, and four pillow cases for two western style pillows and two bolster pillows. This seems to be the norm here. What do people use on top? From what I can gather, people use comforters. This seems bonkers given the heat but what do I know?

I dropped into a Robinson's "Bedding" store and they did have a top sheet for sale for 1600 baht with some mega high thread count. Uh, no thanks.

Are those really my only two options? High priced flat sheets or a polyester comforter?

Not living in Thailand, but when i did, the guesthouses rooms had sheets on top of the bed linen. You could always ask a mate to mail them to you, or buy online or ask in a hotel where they get theirs.

I would assume that fitted sheets and sheets would be sold in the same department. just like they are back home.

Ive never seen a duvet on a bed in a hot country as Thailand. Sapa in Vietnam yes, but not Thailand.

It's a problem. You can buy cotton fabric and have a seamstress make flat sheets for you. Cotton fabric is cheap as well as the work.

Sheets are one of the items I bring back when I visit America.

Third option: bedsheets made from a similar material as towels. I own one, have seen them in markets, and cheap Thai hotels (with fan rooms) seem to use them. Cheap, fairly comfortable, easy to wash.

Thanks. Glad to know I'm not losing it completely. I had looked at the curtains for sale and wonder if they might do in a pinch. The idea of having something made is also a possibility.

1600 baht for a full set with a decent thread count is actually not a bad price even in the West (though if that was only for the top sheet it's pricey)- they do last longer and are more comfortable than cheaper sheets, though- they're actually a worthwhile investment- I would buy two sets of them if I were you, and you won't need new sheets for years.
There he goes. One of God's own prototypes. A high-powered mutant of some kind never even considered for mass production. Too weird to live, and too rare to die.

I buy 100% cotton flat sheets in Wararot market, the same shop that sells mattresses and mossie nets etc

    nice enough quality, cheap too

the problem is finding cotton fitted sheets, they all seem to be a 50% mix

I bring those back from the UK, although I could get them made from the flat sheets
    I have reported your post

Sheets are just about the only items I bring back from the US on my very occasional trips there. I usually have my sister-in-law buy a bunch when they're on sale, and hold them for me. A few full sets of king-size sheets are surprisingly heavy, and cost a bundle to mail - not even counting duty.

Makro stocks nice inexpensive hotel-style sheets, all of them white, and white-striped. Do not confuse this section with the others containing cheap polyester sheets in a variety of colors.

if you are in bkk, you can also try the IKEA there...

they have (usually) a lot of western beddings, and certainly fabric with sewing service...

(possibly not all that dull... )

Yes, Ikea makes sense. I didn't think of that. But it's a bit of a pain for me to get there.

Inspired with misskit's suggestion, I went over to Seacon Square and scoped out Fabric House on the first floor. Lots of helpful workers there with few customers. I think I was the only one for most of my visit. So they indulged my terrible Thai and I ended up buying 2 metres of some nice cotton fabric. Nicer than anything one can find at Ikea I have to think. It's only 1.2 metres wide so that won't do for a king size. But it will do for now. I may return later and buy another swath and then have them sewn together if I'm so inclined.

The fabric was 120 per meter. That's in the middle. You can go cheap for 90 baht a meter, but the stuff is pretty bland. So it cost 250 baht. It's not a cheap solution to the sheet problem. But if you find something you like as I did, you end up with something nicer than you could get at the store. And there's a certain DIY sense about it that adds to the value.

Btw, that flat sheet for 1675 at Robinson's was only for the sheet itself. 450 thread count, OK great, but I'm not paying that. I just don't care that much about sheets. And they were on sale -- reduced 50%.

Tesco does sell all cotton sets (without the top sheet though). They were on sale for 1200 last week. I should have picked up one but didn't. False economy and all that. I think they're back up to 1500+.

Thanks to everyone here for their suggestions.

really? i rarely sleep without one. at home here or on the road.

sucks to sleep in cheap hotels where an oversized towel is expected to suffice.

ikea, isnt a bad option, though index and homepro will suffice in a pinch, as will any major bkk department store.
