    Is Chiang Mai In Recession?

Many people in Chiang Mai are complaining that trade is abysmal .

Sales are down considerably. Loi Khro Rd is dead ,

went to Makro Hang Dong yesterday , the Meat sales counter is down 50%, over last 3 weeks

even the market in Hang Dong sales are well down ,

I sell pies to rimping , sales down 70%

    so what,s going on ?

By the amount of building going on and new cars on the road I would have thought things are booming?

Maybe everyone is busy paying of their new cars and houses? I really think the place is booming personally.

Loi Kroh rd? low season, police closing bars down early, generally shit place to go?

Makro meat market And Hang Dong market look the same to me but I don't go much.

Your pie sales are down 70%? Thats a lot! Maybe the competition?

One might view through Thai eyes first, instead of dwelling on a Western perspective as to your purely Western references...

The Thais are doing well but the falangs are srtuggling.

Prices and local wages have gone up, poms, yanks and eurotrash all copped a hiding with their exchange rates, and a lot of the types up here are living on the edge to start with.

Good time to be an Aussie though

i was up there 2 weeks ago to look at some properties for a food business. The partners/contacts were local. To be honest, compared to Bangkok the place is dead and the rents are much too high (for that amount of customers)

The farangs would probably be ok if they were paying the same rents as the established Thais on much cheaper rents for various reasons.

All that being said, I haven't been for a few years previously - before that 4-5 times since 2004. The night bazaar was the quietest by far I've ever seen it.

I'm guessing - British style pies, yes?
Very limited and select market, my friend.

    Thais don't eat that shite....maybe 5 in a thousand.
    Novelty Farang thing.

Any such references to Farang things and Western style markets [being down] does not reflect on any such broad economic down turn.

    Think.

All the farang made pies that I have tasted in Thailand have been absolutely disgusting. This guy has his work cut out to sell pies given the fact that others are so vile. I wouldn't dream of buying a pie in Thailand unless I was convinced that they were not a rip off.

So, start giving some pies away and allow the satisfied customers to spread the news.
Why can't I make new posts?
