Talking of Kababs, there is a new restaurant in the food mall area at Seacon Shopping Mall Bang Kea. Pretty good and sold by real Kabab type people.

They were indeed the ones. Better than Thais with bad breath, teeth, dirty fingernails while wiping their boggies on their clothes!

That's true, but even so, rent is still cheap with a falang premium slapped on top up here.

I'm renting a house at Thai rates in Lamphun (30 minutes drive from CM city). Nice place never been lived in 2br, gardenetc, in gated moo baan, 4K per month.

Just down the road we rent a double story roller door set-up with glass sliding doors behind the roller for an office, we had to re-paint and supply our own air-con, 5K per month.

This is not CM sure, but prices are siliar for locals.

Very true especially since 10K is in the upper echelon for small business rentals up here, unless you need a premium city location.

OP do you sell the 'gang keaw wan" green curry pies?

I'm probably one of your Rimping regulars so don't worry you still get my business

    It's not just Chiang Mai.

Most of my GF's relatives who own small retail businesses all over Bangkok are all struggling.
Yes, there's been the rainy season, but it's been really very quiet. Doesn't seem to look like it might be picking up anytime soon either.

I'm going to assume that's not a sexual reference since you also mentioned Rimping supermarket. I saw them in the freezer section the other day, but didn't buy one 'cos I'm a man and I thought Lady pies would only be called Lady pies if they were stuffed with sugar and spice and all things nice. Am I wrong? What's in 'em?

Pies here in Thailand are in my experience quite disgusting. The perfect pie pastry is usually made from decent suet, vegetarian or otherwise, or lard or indeed magarine but here it seems to be constructed out of Thai butter/margarine which is, frankly, an abomination with the result the pastry is heavy and features a horrible sweet after taste.

Anyway, the tourist demographic has changed over the years with Asians gaining supremacy. Europeans and septics in the good old days would travel whenever and many took advantage of the better weather offered during the " high season ". Piss poor exchange rates, job insecurity and reduced incomes mean most cut down on travel and limit it to traditional holiday periods within their own societies.

Correct me if I'm wrong but I don't think Asians are that keen on pies, ersatz or otherwise.

    Correct me if I'm wrong
happily, and not for the first time!

thais are actually quite keen on pies, as are most asians.
savoury cold things in puffy flaky pastry, available in most thai bakeries and suburban outdoor markets.

filled with gloopy cheese, tomato ketchup, corn, chicken, thinkly sliced or diced pale ham, bacon, little hot dog things, vegetables, etc.etc.etc.

ive even seen chocolate hot dog pies in thai bakeries.

they are labelled as pies, but westerners might not accept that classification, as pies to westerners are different animals altogether.

Maybe not the best name for such manly fare as a pie but they are really good.

Interesting story behind it too after she was wiped out by the tsunami in Phuket.

Steak and onion for me but my boy loves the Aussie pies.

Worth a try if you are missing Aussie pies but I promise to try the OP's too! I haven't noticed them but I tend to just head for my usuals.

    ^Pie floaters?

Interesting how the economic health of a large town like Chiang Mai can be measured by its pie consumption..

Anyone care to make up some charts?
