    Chiang Mai Market picture thread

One of my favourite markets in CM is the weekend morning market

It is full of variety and interest; you can find anything you want - if not one week, then the next

we have bought all sorts of stuff there, but this thread is just a walk though I had with my daughter last Sunday

we went early to avoid the crowds and heat

if the pics are not perfect, too bad, blame her for pulling my arm to look at some squirrels or dogs

    so, secondhand bags and clothes

    something to eat

    Nice old coins, for experts

    various rubbish for other experts

Kids' stuff; my daughter liked the pink elephant

    something to slake your thirst

    strange foods

secondhand clothes and a girl hiding

    antiques, some real

    plastic boxes

    real antiques, some fake

    household necessities

some great enamel dishes; I like the Tiffin stacks

    more to come...
    I have reported your post

Nice one DA. Never stayed in CM long enough to check out any markets so its nice to see one not tourist orientated.

As for the tiffin carriers, I prefer the stainless steal ones made by zebra brand. Easier to wash.

    next stall

a few old wheels and bits

Reading material in at least two languages, and some "under-the-counter" stuff

    Refreshments

Need a new hat, or a wooden duck?

Buddha stuff, mixed in with Animist stuff

    Deadly weapons

Lots of Amulets; I had a look for a TD one

there are probably over a 100 stalls selling this stuff, mainly concentrated on the top of the market, although there are stalls scattered throughout

    not too crowded early on

    doors, yes

there are some real characters in the market

    hifi

    sorry, a bit blurred

    now, 3 + 5....

he got his hat from the other stall

reading a book from the other stall

Great pics, Dr. Love those old phones.

I see you have cleverly airbrushed the teeming hordes of farangs out of the photos. :-)

I did happen to be next to a young Englishman and his lovely bargirl

she was saying to him "you said you wanted to come", and he said "I didn't think it was like this"

He must have wanted to go to the Sunday evening market

a couple of posters have already mentioned the location, Ultra

The way to get there is cross the Nakornping bridge heading for the Arcade bus staion; near the Prince Regent College you will see a road on the left closed off

or you can cross the Rama IX bridge and the market is all along the road on the right

The market is basically T shaped, along the sidewalk of the Doi Saket road as above, then it goes into the closed off road and continues until it hits the Nawarat road

and the last lap, getting hot now

my favourite stall, he always has something to look or laugh at

some school desks but the kids stole the drawers

Fabtastic Guitars; Jimi bought his first one here

    that is my daughter escaping

she was rushing to see the Siamese fighting fishies

good stuff, everything you might need

Lots of the cheap Buddhist amulets, from B50

Nice bike; I have bought two from here over the years

    The crowd thickening

Animist phalli to make you potent -a sort of carved viagra

hang them around your neck and head out for the night

    various amulets and magic stuff

    Have some refreshments

before buying a nice large phallus for staying in with

    Old products that people collect

they had some "Darkie" toothpaste packs last week

    Fans

My wife loves this stall; all sorts of home grown veggie from the hills that the supermarkets, or even markets, don't sell

and jump on a red bus and head home

    back next week!
