Of course it's not safer for them to use ONLY the money that is in your account as a credit card would allow them to use money that you don't have yet !

I'll bring cash and my tuxedo prepaid card just to be on the safe side.

For the past several years I have used my BKK Bank Visa card without a problem both in the states and Thailand.

However, I have been told my limit is B250,000. Never been close to the limit! Well, I did go crazy once with my baggage coming from the states once. Cost me right around $3,000 for being a bit heavy. The account is paid off monthly.

Really not that much money in the overall scheme of things...

    beat the atm charge

I use an irish bank credit card with no foreign fees for purchases only so recent car rental was cheaper with card than usiing cash also use when in big c etc save drawing down from atm and paying 150 baht each time.also have uk based debit card
with no foreign fees so get cash at visa corporate rate which is just slightly better
    than bangkok bankcash rate
now if i can finfd a thai atm that doesnt charge 150 fee each time i reckon i will have cracked it got to go just seen a flying pig!!!

Unfortunately it is the bank who has the last laugh (on you). They still charge you but in a different way via the exchange rate
