I was speaking "at" some of the junior relatives in english, hoping a few words would trickle down when one of the girls asked

"oo pasa thai pen gaw"

It struck me that she thought she was speaking thai. I replied

"Bpood pasa thai dai mai"

Looks of puzzlement, the older one got it though.

I get the impression that the brain washing kids get from the television and school leaves them thinking that Thai is the only language spoken here.

27 odd dialects ein't there? I spent a year speaking Laotian thinking it was Thai.

brain washing Thai kids seems to flourish in the schools and the scouts/guides driving in patriotism on a history based on fantasy.

Agreed. Seems to be a relevent forced upon standard vacant of such flexibility or tolerence. This modern Thai/Thailand nationalism and it's infrastructures are far more destructive than it appears to be on the surface.

Tell you what, I tried to inform a Thai, Laos actually that the term "con dieo" which means alone or litteral translation "with God" was actually Portugues and from a time past when Europe ruled Asian. But no, the term was Asian and that was all there was to it. Thick Asian birds.....! "Solly darling, didn't mean it."

Well, Mallorca actually. They speak catalonian here not Spanish. They get very offended if you try using Spanish.
