Yes it is, BTW a new owners group took over the Champasack Palace Hotel. They are doing a renovation now and the pic I posted of the Kings room was just the other day. No bar on the roof as of yet but all the rooms the gal showed me were all redone. New bedding, curtains, matresses, paint ect.
The fishlocker is getting a facelift as well.
If they ever finish the road and river bank like they say they will I may finish the rest of the "dance hall."
I'm not holding my breath. .....
fish.
I do expect a cracking thead from your current trip bld. I was hoping to hit Ankgor Wat but we got sidetracked with this project in the projects.
Should be heading down to Sepan Don soon. I just have to have them finish this and we are off.
Safe travels. The fishes.
Vietnam trip done and dusted. Staying tonight in Thakkhek at a great place called le bouton dor. Not cheap but WTF its new year.vientiane tomorrow
Sounds great, Looking forward to another bang up thread.
I've got to say say I'm envious that you're doing what you're doing. I speant the day on sils Honda wave scooting around Pakse. I found a little abandoned hamlet and got a tour of a new build. Had a Latte at the brickhouse Sports Bar and toured around downtown. Met a couple from Slovenia and popped back to the fishes crib in time for dinner now. Then its off to a party in town at bils. He's back from Thailand on a bit of a break.
Oh and picked up a bottle of Get this "King Robert" Blended Scotch whisky for 75,000 kip. I figured it's got to be better than that 5,000 kip Lao Lao.
Happy New Year.
the fish.
Another fixer upper. Right on the Don river. The river is taking it for a ride these days.
Gave myself a tour. I was expecting to find a few skeletons in the closets. Some places weren't very safe. This one had that haunted house feel.
Kinda cool.
It's right on the river. In fact some of it is right in the river.
King robert will kick yer ass.
Happy new year
I woke whith no cuts, scrapes or bruises. In fact I believe I've been knighted as I awoke dreaming of the girl with oil and tea and a certain touch. Hell, I almost am starting to like this place.
I'll come to my senses once the hangover wears off. Begining to see the allure though. I must shake it or I'll forever long for this altered state.
Pics to follow.....Not.
Happy New Year...
the fish.
As Bogey once said "here is looking at you kid."https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kTXfGaEbkq8
Was here at sundown, real nice views. Rooms at 38usd.
They have a few bungalows near the river where we each received a one hour massage for a total of 120,000 kip for the two of us.
After a chat and some tea I decided to tip each girl 76,000 kip each. Sounded to me like the hotel was screwing them.
Not a bad place to spend a few hours.
This sort of thing is what's going to make it tough to get back to reality.
The bridge over the Mekong with the Golden Buddha Temple lit up on the other side.
I did get a tour of a new build the other day. This cats crib makes the fishlocker look, well like a fishlocker. Check it out.
Not bad, concidering where it is I wouldn't say he lost his marbles.
View out of another crapper. Some guys got it like that here. Others, not so much.
The main entrance. Like I said, it makes the fishlocker look like a fishlocker.
Anyone have any info on the history of this place? I've searched the web and found nothing. It's an old hotel with a nightclub of sorts at one time.
Lots of heavy equipment along the Don and Mekong rivers currently. Seems a major uplift in the riverfront is ongoing.
This place is on the Don river just east of Pakse. Not that it matters though I'm curious. Gf say many places were just "left" back in the late 70's. I've seen many abandoned places. Some quite large buildings ect.
Reminds me of just why I wouldn't want my eggs in this basket.
Well, one or two is all anyway.
The old bridge got trashed from last years flooding. Ang they still rode bikes across it. That is until last week.
Because they finished the new bridge. Concrete telephone poles used this time. It should last a while.
