Bungling in the Jungle, Laos, 2018.-143-2-jpgA bridge over the river above the falls. We had lunch there and I flew the drone a bit. I would say it wasn't a bad place to spend an afternoon.

I'm not doing a building thread per say as this place is nine years old.

How it came to be one might ask and the truth is at that time I had never been to Laos or Asia for that matter. Truthfully I figured as an American after the fact......... ( Thank my forefathers ) I had no business there. Miss fish however has family there and so being the nice guy I am I figured I'd use the Louisiana Pond Jump method.

I'd throw her in and if she made it back I'd throw her farther, then jump in. I heard there are alligators ect around here.

She made it back Allright and took some stunning pics of the farm. She said " no problem we can build a house there."

Of course I asked at what cost and it was on. This was and still is " the sticks" in my opinion but it does have potential once they build a real road system. The plus is we have a place to stay while here rather than at a hotel. I like the hotel option as it's in town and I don’t have to fix the well pump, or the likes, ect.

So what am I on to?

I met a guy that builds Temples ect and he does woodworking. I figured lets break up the dance hall so the fish can have a real room.

Here is what we've done so far. Yes I've been cutting insulation as I'm like that. Its keeping me from touring but only for a day or two.

Here is what we got so far.

I figure what the hell I'll have a decent camp to come back to if and when they ever build a decent road system. If not, Im going to need a bigger boat........

Back to "Death by Miss Adventure."
No not the falls silly, Miss fish. The other day I passed through Talot Pakse and a group of gals were drinking and the likes as I was buying a couple of wifi chips from a gal we've known for years. One girl calls to me"I love you." Miss fish in que not far behind, I said then"a meia noi? " They erupt in laughter and begin to pour me some berry drink that I've never had in Laos. Luckily miss fish was in a good mood or I'd have a sockaboo along with a the dumb dumb dumb, fuck fuck fuck.

I'd post some picks of the selfies we took but I'm afraid Dilly would turn me into........the flying...

Not to get too far off the traveling aspects of this thread but please do realize if in Lao it's definitely different.

For example the guy doing the building at the farmhouse gave me this receipt for the toung and grooved stack of wood. Keep in mind it's 8650 kip per dollar. After I did a bit of head scratching and questioning the guy he smiled as he realized they forgot a few zeros.

That price includes delivery, installation is about 100,000 kip per square meter.

Fortunately for him I'm a nice guy and actually know some prices of local "stuff" and can do simple math. The number at the bottom is what they were looking for. Just lucky for me I didn't hire these guys for their math skills.

    Gotta love Loas.........fish.

So the break down is 1 bundle = 1sq meter = 90,000 kip.
    1 "cue" = 45 bundles. We received 2 "cue" = 90 bundles
Total = about 945 usd or 8 million kip.

Here is where we are at today.
Again I didn't plan on this being a building thread, however this is Laos so expect the unexpected is my motto.
Miss fish really wanted me to do this and I figured no time like the present.

    ^Looks like a good deal for 945 US $$.

Excuse me fish for an off topic question...Got this for Xmas:

Made by Klements out of Brewtown. Is it food or a sex toy...and what do I do with it? Slice and fry...eat as is?? Figured you might know about these things.

I see it's smoked so it probably doesn't require any further cooking. European Traditions it says...

Oh baby, what I wouldn't do for a slice of that right now.

I'd get the Mexican tortillas, then slice the klement's sausage real thin placing on the chips. Then some pepper jack cheese topped with a slice of jalapeno pepper.

Microwave for 20 seconds, just until the cheese melts.

You almost make me wish I was back at work. That was one of my staples there except I go for the Usinger summer sausage with garlic. I age it in the fridge for about a month first.

Somebody must like you to be giving you the sausage though.

    Cheers, fish.

It's not so bad at the farm. I roll out of bed knowing that these folks were up before the dawn working harder than half the folks back home.

Stopped by my favorite hotel. The Mekong river Paradise. As usuall totally empty. The owner wasn't there this time. She did raise the rates a bit. I can't see how they keep the place so nice with so few visitors.

Thanks fish, I thought you'd have an idea. Into the fridge it goes. Leave it in the packaging to age?

That type I believe is not in a natural casing so it doesn't "age." The Usinger's I age it to dry it up a bit so that when you microwave it its not so oily.

What you have there is good to go. Get some fine crackers and a slice of cheese and you're all set. I can get good nacho style chips back home so like I said, a thin slice of summer sausage on a chip topped with what ever cheese you like and a tamed jalapeno pepper or a hot one if your into that. Miss fish loves hot spicy stuff as for myself a little hot is good. It's all what you like.

You may try searching the web for Ideas on what to do with a summer sausage. I just wouldn't do it at work if you have IT people watching what you do. Haha.

I forgot to bring some with on this tour. Surpisingly it packs well. I did remember the Jack links Jerky and packs of tuna. I found some Mayonnaise by Belle France and another by Best Foods. It's not too bad on french bread topped with tuna. Enjoy your Xmas gift. The fishes.

Last time there the rooms were I believe 28usd for a nice room with shared deck riverside. Then 38ish for one like this then 45ish for the room with the private deck and best view of the sunset. Just to give an idea of how prices have gone up since Dec 2016.

Cool, like I've allway said it's my sausage and I'll do with it what I please.
Not sure if I posted this pick before so excuse me if I have. This is a cool spot, Tad Lo Laos. It's the bridge leading to more bungalows. I forgot the price but they were cheep. The strange thing about it was that we met an english man on a bycycle at an ATM in Pakse a few days prior. Sure enough twenty minutes after I crossed the bridge here comes sil toting his sidebags for him as he makes his way across the bridge pushing his bicycle. She is such a trooper and a good sport. And single I might add as her beloved husband past last year at a very young age. I miss him as he was a great person, hard worker and he could sing and dance. They made a great couple. He was the keeper of my guitar. Amazingly his son now plays very well. Things and sounds I'd never think of. It makes me think of that kid years and years ago that showed up with an electric guitar one night at a New years eve party in town.

So I did a little Jimmy, Some Page and some ZZ Top. I swear it was the damnedest thing when the next day he and his little brother carrying the amp showed up at the farm. It's a hike so yea, we played that day. Gotta love it.

I did leave them all behind as I hiked up to the upstream falls. You know, because it was there.

I was told a few days prior a fella died messing around the falls here so I watched my steps. I still want to get back to the top of Tad Fane "Tad Fun" as it's pronounced and roll the DJI. If It or I die trying hell, at least it's a try.

As Yoda once said,"Try not..do. Do or do not!"

Last time above the falls. I don't know if you can still do this hike. We'll see. Nothing like living on the edge. I'm used to it. So what? Beats a Boardroom. Not that I could not make the scuffle but since the mechanized this place the trail may be altered to keep people from peeing on you as they wet their pants from above.

As for myself, I can take the heat..98.6F . I've been pissed on before.
OH shoot , no Gary Glitter Jokes please. Miss fish will through me in the big river. Damned then I'd have to swim.....
