Slow Boat from Huai Xai to Luang Prabang

I read recently that the Lao government is putting in a dam near Pak Beng, with Chinese help. Anyone know if the slow boat is still operating and can get thru from Huai Xai to Luang Prabang?

Thank you, aging one... did you see any progress on the dam?

I was only in Chaing Khong watching the river float by. Did see the boats leaving though. The town has really slowed up since the bridge opened. Amazing to see that Huai Xai has become more developed and seemingly bigger than Chaing Khong. The busiest place in town was Tesco Lotus with more Lao license plates in the car park than Thai.
