    Laos loor?

Wondering about the ins & outs of having our (long overdue) wedding ceremony in Laos by stacking the fam up in a rental van (maybe + another truck) and crossing the border.

At first I was thinking Luang Prabang (from Nong Khai), however that looks like it'd be an 11+ hr. ordeal, so maybe just outside Vientiane - unless anyone has an alternative idea.

    * Any of you guys ever done something like this?

    * Can Thais stay 30 days on just their Thai I.D. or is there a limit where a passport would then be required?

    * Ever rented an auto in T-land and crossed into Laos driving it?
    (any notable contingencies?)

    * Know of any "grounds" for rent? (over a hotel) ...or maybe a part of a hotel with individual villas and such?

I'm just getting started on planning this

    Thanks for any info.

    Yeah, maybe he can. Cheers.

We're already legally married, so not too fussed about the paperwork side of things - more the pragmatics of getting there, having some type of small event that resembles a ceremony, looking around a bit, getting some good photos - that kinda' thang.

    We'll see.

    Why Laos?

Just curious, thought your wife was a Filipino for some reason.

    No, she's Issarn.

Just to do something a little different than the standard village ceremony and not to mention - escape about 15 raging alcoholic cousins.

Luang prabang would probably be a more romantic option. If coming from.nongkhai then maybe just fly Vientiane to there
Or for a scenic option maybe you could tie the knot in vang vieng.

As for visas I think it works both ways for Thais and Lao if they cross the border they can use there border pass for 3 days any longer or if they go outside of issan ( for the Lao) they need to use a passport

It's possible to hire cars in vientiane that have the car passport to take them into thailand but not sure about the other way around

No idea how you would go about arranging a marriage between your issannwife and yourself. My marriage took 18 months just to get permission from the Lao govt and involved 2 interviews. Strange setup here. You could pose the question on a facebook page called Vientiane social.

You won't have any trouble finding a venue to get married in but as David pointed out the bureaucracy can be daunting.

I wouldn't like to put up with the bullshit we went through to get married again . I've heard it takes even longer to get divorced to. Faark I better keep her indoors sweet.

Losing some traction - still though,....if I found a decent place to rent around Vientiane, could confirm the wheels and found some locals to play support staff.....could be fun.

He's already legally married. He's just after a party venue, if I've read it right

no shortage of wedding venues. Currently I think it's not wedding season so he could probably get a nice hotel , catering etc for a reasonable figure. Wedding photographers are everywhere around town to. If he, not to tubby i could lend him my suit. Only wore it once.

^Would that be the one in your avatar? Just saying as it would be good for a swim that one.

I'm game next time we shine around Vientiane.

On second thought I'll bring my own suit. That one looks rather restrictive. I'd rather pass on the hinder binder for now but thanks for the offer just the same.
