Sepon had 2 camps Padan and Hinsom , Padan was much older and made of Timber but i preffered it to the new camp

This is my gaff, For a few beers Fabrication department made me some barstools for outside

    Nothing flash but comfy enough

even had aussie channel on the Tv

Both camps had a gym and a fitness trainer is you wanted to get fit

Food in the mess hall consisted of a choice of Lao or farang, no complaints from me

Community relations department got the locals onboard and started a Laundry business for them. our Laundry was done for us twice a week

    Laundry cart

in the wet season camp maintenance would spray our rooms and offices for Mosquitoes, dont want anyone getting dengue or malaria

    Aerial view of padan camp

^ Mate The Gruen Transfer ... one of my favorites.

Was the real reason you liked the 'old' camp ... air-conditioning?

BTW ... how long ago did you have this position with the Mining Company?

As Modern airbourne geophysical methods of exploration hadnt been done here for the last 15 years or so we It was decided to conduct a heli EM survey to try to identify more drill targets,

The probe is dangled under the chopper and the survey is flown in a grid pattern

Shortly after starting CR received complaints from concerned locals thinking they were about to get bombed again

Fly camping ( temporary camps) was something we done if our exploration targets were to far away , The 2 sepon camps hinsom and padan were both aircon i liked padan as it was quieter and the new camp was really only converted sea containers, pics of that camp later.

I was made redundant a little bit over 2 years ago now, had a good run. came on a 6 month contract and stayed for 9 years.

The department i worked for (Exploration )made there last 50 team members redundant early last year. Theres no ongoing exploration there now, Mine will go for a few more years perhaps?

Great thread mate and some very nice young ladies. It's a bit sad to see some primary jungle being stripped. Any plans on restoration once the mine is played out?

Well I can't pretend that I'm not both angry and disillusioned at the utter lack of porn stars in this thread but it's still a cracker!

Yes mate. Even though we were a chinese owned mine ( used to be Australian) operating in Laos Things were still done to an High Environmental standard. i do believe they have a mine closure plan. In fact Environment department was huge. Anyway ya cant make an omellete without cracking a few eggs. Anyway plenty of primary jungle to go around.

The copper plant at sepon is/was probably the most advanced copper cathode producing plant in south east asia. The fucker required a shitload of folk and chemicals to keep it ticking, heres a few pics of that rascal

    Settling tanks

An Rc (Reverse circulation) rig 0n an exploration pad

the geo logs the chips per metre and the Field assistants and day labour split it in 2 and 1 sample gets sent to the lab, the other one is retained as a reference sample if its twin comes back with a good result

I wonder if we don't actually know some of the same people, Beery.

There were a few mining-types I've met over the years here in CM that worked around the region.

In some cases the target we want to drill is simply to steep and inaccessible to get a track powered rig to site, when that happens we use a man portable, this rig can be broken down and carried up the hill to be re assembled

Its not a job anybody enjoys, even the track to the pad has to be cut by hand

    There goes the mast

The Lao boys are a lot stronger than they look

quite possibly, a lot of expats had the choice of flying back to there point of hire or Taking $1200 instead and taking there R&R elsewhere in the region. a lot of guys onsite opted for chiang mai
