How many fatalities on the UXO deep search teams. It sounds horrific.

I started there in about 2006 and there really wasnt a huge effort to promote safety, all that came later with the training and discipline etc, We could still get a beer onsite in both camps but you had to be zero alcohol by start of shift, Back then there was always lots of partys and it was a pretty good social scene
Nothing gave the guards a bigger laugh in there otherwise boring day than catching someone blowing over zero, instant dismissal
our wet mess

It varied on what tasks they did for example i think cutters were on about 55000 kip a day. samplers on a drillrig about the same maybe 65000 for night shifts. This rate was actually stipulated by the Lao govt as being fair if you as a foreign company try to pay more than a local company will pay then you are creating a false economy, just the way it is. Personally i would of liked to see them on more but iit wasnt up to me, Certainly skilled Lao geologists engineers were aall on fairly good money by local standards because we could only find them in vientiane sometimes savannakhet. most didnt know much after graduating anyway and still needed a lot of training
Surprised they send out girls with machetes. I though an industrial brush cutter/slasher would make quicker work of it.Originally Posted by beerlaodrinker

Strangely enough none of the uxo team were killed. perhaps because of the Farang supervision? Mostly they suffered macchette wounds or snakebites on the ass while there overalls were down to take a dump. or they would get injured in the seemingly endless road accident. We did have a couple of murders in the camp though. Mostly The Laos and Thais fighting over gambling and shit
The endless road accidents
oops that one was me, came over a rise with the sun in my eyes and turn where there was only open air, ( no safety bund) wasnt to far down
FFS guys cut it out im running out of Landcruisers

Mate, I liked this photo you did.
There is a TD photo comp running and the theme is 'people'.
(Entries are a bit light on)
I entered the image on your behalf ... https://teakdoor.com/photoshop-and-ph...ml#post3573499 (Teakdoor photo competition - June 2017)
Are you cool with that?
.
Will bung up some more tomorrow
I remember the earlier thread you did, also staggeringly good, with plenty of accidents.
Surprised the company didn't invest in some ex military recovery vehicles.
Blinding good thread, funny as fook with tons of human interest.
You are the boost that New York bloke promised aren't you BLD. Loving it mate.![]()
Heart of Gold and a Knob of butter.
Post 39, 2nd pic. Swop the jeans for black stockings and I would be in heaven.
And get rid of the Cats, Volvo is what you need...
Gotta agree on both counts. I think when they decided to go owner operator the boom was still on and gear was hard to find. Cat might of given them a good service contract also?
Who is this New York bloke?
Lao people are definately party people. For being stuck on a remote site the nightlife was surprisingly good
And they sure like to eat
