You would think Disney would actually have some shares in the project, but they don't.

Excavation work to prepare land for construction of Disney Laos in the Thakhaek Specific Economic Zone in Khammuan province will begin next month, according to the project developer.

Chairman of the Akane Farm Sole Company Limited, Mr Somjith Aliyaphaphone, told Vientiane Times yesterday the project included three different phases, with the construction of Disney Laos to be part of the last phase.

“Overall our plan is to have the project completed in 7-10 years,” he said.

seems to be plenty going on in vientiane at the moment to

The Lao World Public Company (Lao World) has invested a lot of money in providing people an amazing experience in the area of Lao-ITECC and the ITECC Mall in Xaysettha district, Vientiane.
The company will be opening children’s areas within this month, which is one zone of the park, the company’s Board Manager Mr Khamphone Phonekeo told Vientiane Times.
Regarding the other zones, the company will continue to open them for the public once construction and fit out is complete, he said.
Behind the mall is one of the highlights of the project, lTECC’s Ocean Park. At over 32,000 square metres, Ocean Park will be the largest waterpark ever built in the Lao PDR and it will have something for people of all ages to enjoy.
With six waterslides, two ocean wave pools, two children’s areas, two rock climbing walls, ziplines, and a lazy river that is over 350 metres long, people will have a great time cooling off from the hot sun.
The ocean wave pools, ranging from 50 to 80 centimetres in depth, will be able to accommodate both adults and children. They are capable of generating waves up to three metres high, allowing people to feel like they are really sitting by the beach.
There is even a slide that allows six people to sit on a tube and slide down at one time.
Children in the family zones will have a wonderful time playing with the many sculptured characters that spray water everywhere. But if you are not into getting wet, you can choose some alternative activities such as getting some exercise done on the climbing wall or enjoying the view while zip-lining 40 metres above the water park.
With so many unique attractions, safety is the number one priority for Lao World.
That’s why they have hired trained lifeguards and professionals to oversee the safety of all its guests. Of course, flotation devices will also be available for people who are not strong swimmers.
The water park will be one of Vientiane’s main tourist attractions and will be a great place for locals and visitors to relax.
The company’s management board will discuss the admission price at a later date, while the cost of construction will be revealed after project completion.
After shopping at the ITECC Mall, Lao World hopes to attract more shoppers to enjoy the leisure facilities at the water park, while many are expected to come just for the water park. This will give Vientiane residents more shopping options and will help them save money by cutting down on the trips they make to Nong Khai and Udon Thani provinces in Thailand.

    About fookin time

As of yesterday Vientiane has its first real supermarket – Rimping !
Rimping Supermarket, located at the View Mall (which itself is still under construction) is a “upper-end” supermarket, maybe best compared to “Jason Supermarket” in Singapore or “Foodland” in Thailand.
Rimping’s beginnings date back over 60 years in Chiang Mai, Thailand and has from a simple “Mom & Pop” venture grown into a chain of nine stores. It’s still a family-run business without any international affiliations.

We are a little different to other supermarkets” says Rimping and after visiting their new branch in Vientiane, I even would say that Rimping is very different to any other super/minimarket in Laos and also in Thailand.
“We love what we do, and we think that shopping should be a pleasant and dignified experience. Promotional announcements are unheard of, and light classical music plays in the background. Browsing can often be a discovery, as we stock many unusual products not sold elsewhere.”
Rimping provides customers with both wet and dry food options, such as fresh as well as chilled products, seafood and meat along with vegetables. You can also buy preserved or packaged products along with other general household items and toiletries. The in-house ‘Oven’ Bakeries offers fine breads, pastries and other patisserie delicacies.
My personal impression: Fantastic supermarket. Heaps of fresh food. A little on the pricey side for locals accustomed to finding cheaper deals but would be normal for Expats (prices seem lower compared to other Expat minimarts in town).
Lots of specials for Expats that you don’t normally get in some supermarkets like a fantastic bakery section with lots of breads not normally found in Vientiane. There is also a good selection of wine and cheese. Another positive is that the meat is all kept in refrigerated glass cabinets instead of put in the open like most supermarkets in Thailand (Tesco included).
Last but definitively not least, Rimping’s orange-coloured plastic bags are corn-based and biodegrade and disintegrate in about eight months ! Now that makes me feel wanting to buy even more

I'm still planning "Paint Ball Laos".

Any of you mothers want in on the ground floor pm me. The tunnels are already dug.

Just need a couple ducks and a fast boat.

But seriously I just traveled all of Florida. Met people from all over the world. If they do this right and keep costs practical for the Laotian people Id figure it to do quite well. I can see Chinese being bussed in by the masses.

At Universal Studios Orlando I met a groups from Columbia, Japan, France, Brittian ect. One Bartender I chatted with at a hotel on Clearwater Beach was from Holland. Who ever is funding this will be rolling in cash If its done well.

I just want a dollar for each scooter parked in the lot each day every day. I'll bet one of you clowns really wants to dress up like a mouse and get paid for it this time. Ha ha.
