Btw Universal studios ticket was 170 usd at the tourism station. The at the door price was well over that. I could have bought at the hotel for 180 each. But thought Id just get them at the door. I paid 20 bucks to park and walk to get the tickets. Well over 200 each so I left the park, drove to the tourism station bought tickets went back to the park. Told one of the six lot attendants that I left my tickets at the hotel and showed them the receipt for 20 bucks and time and date.

The fast passes were 100 each. A must have as the lines can have you waiting for an hour each. Plan on ten dollars for a burger in the park. 20 dollar tee shirts. A true tourist trap at it's finest.

However the rides are out of this world, simply amazing stuff. The question id have is who will maintain the roller coasters ect. Hate to be going off the rails on a crazy train.

Hard Rock Cafe Vientiane is a huge 10.000sq, custom built entertainment destination with 297 seats. We feature a Rock Shop® displaying one of a kind merchandise, and feature a bar that is accessible by both the main restaurant area and terrace. We also feature 2 outside terraces alongside a large spacious dining room on the 1st floor, with an additional dining area and VIP seating and function room on the 2nd floor. Both areas overlook the live stage that will feature the best bands and music in Laos. Throughout the cafe we have memorabilia pieces from favorite artists such as: Michael Jackson, Miley Cyrus, No Doubt, Rolling Stones, Bruce Springsteen & Black Eyed Peas just to name a few.
I knew the BEPs were big in the Philippines but I must question Laos as a music festival destination. Kinda sad sort of as its natural elements and backwater ways were the real draw. Seems the communists have embraceed capitalism. The farther you travel the more it will cost. Nothing unexpected. Falangs may pay triple, but yet a deal at any price.

When I go to Vientiane, I don't bother with this stuff. If I wanted this, I'd go back to the USA and do it right... local color and venues is still where it's at and can still be found. Just don't join the herd.

Fair comment that but only applicable to the westerners who have experienced the Disney Experience back in the States.

Disneyland in LA is quite something else and must been seen to appreciate the incredible work that has gone into it.

Hong Kong ain't to bad either, they are trying hard to be loyal to the brand.

Laos on the other hand will not be on that scale, I doubt that very much.

    Lets see what happens.

    Jackyboy,

If you never went there how would you know about the pure scale of the Place and the incredible work that has gone into it over many decades.

The place costs a wedge to get into simply because Billions of dollars have been Invested to make it a world class venue.

Besides the Kids having a brilliant day the big kids mostly love it as well.

One would need to be a sad coont to walk out and say it was shit or average at best.

    Well Jacky,

If you witnessed the pure joy on your kids face as you accompanied then around Disneyland I would say your next fishing trip would be brilliant whether you caught fish or not.

The ideal of what poses as a positive might differ greatly.

Nothing beneficial, actually - mostly destructive.

^hammer & sickle also present in Vietnam, especially when I visited in April last year which was just before the 40th anniversary of the "Reunification"

Re: Disneyland, hi-so Filipinos flock to HK Disneyland to see & experience it. Some middle-class professionals do so too (usually Gen X-ers & those born later), since they grew up with Disney, American cartoons & Sesame Street on TV. I grew up with Sesame Street and it helped to develop my English skills. However, middle-class people have to really save up for it - the HK trip, entrance fee, etc.

I've been to HK Disneyland with my sister, and we were both still young-at-heart to enjoy the rides, even the heart-stopping ones. The entrance tickets were complimentary (gifted by a friend). I found the food & drinks very expensive, given my backpacker budget, but IMO the experience was worth it. We didn't know about the fast pass, and the lines were very long during Xmas season. We sometimes waited in line for 1 hour for a 1-2 minute ride. Silly, I know.

There's an amusement park near my area which is open all year round, but it has its lean times. At Php 600 entrance fee (~13 USD), many find it expensive, especially if one is bringing a family of 4 or 5. The park, Enchanted Kingdom, is nowhere near the size of Disneyland.

I don't know if the ordinary Lao people would be able to afford and enjoy their Disneyland, or if it'll just be a playground for rich foreigners. Let's see...

I took my kids twice to the Disneyland in Tokyo. Once in the summer and again a few months later during the winter. The summer visit was packed so I decided going back there when the Japanese kids were back at school and the weather was cold. SHIT! It was just as packed as before. Full of kids on school outings and people thinking same as myself that it'd be quiet.

Queuing 45-60 mins for 2 minute attractions, one after the other is not my idea of fun. At the end of the day you realise you've spent nearly all of the day shuffling forward every couple of minutes in long snaking queues, checking the countdown signs of '45 mins waiting time' '40 mins waiting time' '35 mins waiting time' etc. And the attractions were nothing special; riding around in circles seated in an over-sized teacup or piling through the front doors of a cinema showing cartoons then 2-3 mins later piling out the back doors making way for the next audience.
All the better attractions had waiting times of around 1.5 hours. Sod that.

Still, my kids were over the moon on both visits having been brought up with Cinderella, Buzz and Woody, Peter and Tinkerbell etc. on DVD. They've never really taken to Mickey, Donald, Goofy or Pluto for some reason.

I'm very glad I took them but very, very gladder I don't have to take them again now that they've grown up.

Question in Nakhon Phanom: Disney Laos is a hoax?

Charnyuth Uppapong, chairman of the provincial chamber of commerce, said on Monday that he could not verify if the construction would take place. He referred to his discussions with counterparts in Khammuan province in Laos.

He expressed fears that this report could spark land accumulation by investors from outside the province. Yet, he said if the construction report is true, it would be a boon to the province.

"If this is true, it would bring great benefit to Nakhon Phanom as our province could be a transport centre, thanks to our readiness in terms of roads and airport. We have thousands of restaurants and hotels. If Disney Laos takes shape, Nakhon Phanom would be the must-visit province to all," he said.

Thailand’s Nakhon Phanom and Laos’ Khammuan share the border.

Vientiane Times reported in 2014 that a consortium of Lao, Thai and Malaysian investors announced a massive investment project in Khammuan’s Thakhek Specific Economic Zone (TSEZ). The project, worth US$10 billion, would feature a world-class financial centre, the first ever Disney Laos and residential and superior lifestyle communities. The report went that Disney Laos would be part of the second phase, with a focus on eco-tourism in Adventure Land complemented with the first ever 'Mountain Walk’ cable car network between mountains in the province. This phase was said to cost of $2 billion.

Tharin Phanthumai of the province’s tourism council was not convinced. He said the project sounds impossible. However, he said that if this is true, Lao people’s income would rise and this will benefit Nakhon Phanom.

"What concerns me is this could be a hoax, designed to drive up land prices. This will affect real estate development. If this is a hoax, it would definitely hurt Thailand," he said.

In the latest Vientiane Times report last week, Somjith Aliyaphaphone, chairman of Akane Farm Sole - a Lao investor in the project, said Disney Laos would be part of the third phase. While excavation work to prepare the land started, he said the entire project was set to cost $8 billion. It was set to complete in 7-10 years, he said, adding that any further progress on the project would be released at the end of this month.

Man Jailed For 17 Years Over Fake Disney Scam

Man Jailed For 17 Years Over Fake Disney Scam

    09:14, UK, Thursday 03 September 2015

A man has been jailed for more than 17 years for conning investors out of more than $20m over a fake Walt Disney theme park and resort in North Texas.

Thomas W Lucas Jr, of Plano, was ordered to pay $8.4m in restitution after he was convicted of seven counts of wire fraud and one count of making false statements to the FBI.

Prosecutors said the 35-year-old defrauded more than 280 investors between 2006 and 2010 by claiming to have inside information on the park and getting 65 people to buy land in Collin and Denton counties.

The investors were told the land would be on the edges of the future park and they had hoped to sell it on to developers for a profit after Disney announced the park.

Walt Disney Company has 'no plans' for a Disneyland in Laos

For residents in landlocked Laos — one of the world's least developed nations — it seemed too good to be true, and in the end it was. Now the Walt Disney Company has confirmed the sad news: the world's seventh Disneyland theme park will not - repeat, not - be built in the Communist nation after all.

The confusion stemmed from an article early this month in the Lao-government-run Vientiane Times which appeared to state that the next Disney theme park was to be built in a rural province of southern Laos.

"Excavation work to prepare land for construction of Disney Laos ... will begin next month" at Thakek, the newspaper stated on its inside cover.

Thakek is the capital of southern Khammouane province which is up to 10 hours by road from the capital Vientiane. In the rainy season the road is often washed away by floods.

The $US5 billion project was to include three phases, the newspaper said, "with the construction of Disney Laos to be part of the last phase" completed within 7-10 years. The newspaper outlined extensive details of the project, citing investors from Thailand, Malaysia and Laos.

The report generated an immediate frenzy of interest — and scepticism — on social media and in neighbouring Thailand.

Nearly 30,000 people "liked" the report on a Lao-run Facebook page.

"This is perhaps my favourite news story of the century so far," said one reader.

"It's the logical next destination for ole Walt: Paris, Hong Kong, Vientiane," said another.

Although, the reaction was not all positive.

"We do not need Disney," said one Lao woman. "We are already a Mickey Mouse country."

And savvy Thai business leaders told Thailand's The Nation newspaper they feared the report was a deliberate hoax to spark land price speculation.

Thailand's north-eastern province borders the planned "Disney" site. Yet, as Thai media pointed out, Disney had no plans to build a similar theme park in Thailand, which after all has a population around 10 times that of Laos — 70 million versus six million.

Now, the Walt Disney Company has dispelled the reports as rumour.

"We continually look for ways to grow our business and as part of that process we have conversations with many different entities," a US-based company representative said in an email to the Thai media website Khaosod.

"While Laos is an attractive market, we have no plans for the region at this time," Christi Erwin Donnan said.

    Rumour may stem from mistranslation

Residents in Vientiane are still coming to grips with the news.

"I am brok heart (sic)," posted one.

"Sheeeeeeet, I'd just boxed off my 2023 field trip!" said another.

One Vientiane resident suggested the false report may have stemmed from a mistranslation — that "Disneyland" is simply a generic term for "theme park" in the Lao language.

It is not the first time that Laos has apparently upset a huge global brand.

It is common knowledge in Vientiane that a local fried chicken shop took the name KFC when it opened a few years ago.

One resident even remembers a picture of Colonel Sanders above the shop, that had an uncanny resemblance to Ho Chi Minh.

It has since become urban myth that an employee from the real KFC noticed the shop while holidaying in Laos and reported the copyright breach back to headquarters.

Soon after, the shop took down the signage and Colonel Sanders.

Although there is now another shop in Vientiane that also trades on the KFC name — Kouvieng Fried Chicken, named after its location in the capital.

Any update on this project? Sounds like a nice way to spend a day. I have never been to any theme parks outside of the US. I'd be a hero for a day if I could take a bunch of children with us. That alone would make my day.

It does seem kinda silly to go to Loas for a modern park experience. That's not what we expect when going there. The times they are a changen.

At the end of the day you realise you've spent nearly all of the day queueing up for 45-60 minutes each time for the least popular attractions that lasts on average 2 minutes.
