I have been told Songkran in Vientiane is even more intolerable than Pattaya, anyone have any experience or comments please??

I would think there is a greater proportion of human waste in the water they throw.
Thanks Mr. P, looks like I will just stay for a few days early April and move on to Vietnam.
i usually try to leave the country during pee mai. Way to much chaos for me
I don't think it i more intolerable. However I do not venture out as the "driving" is even worse than usual.
If that first video was any indication, it looks like only one small group participating. Not the massive crowds we have in Thailand.
Personally I really enjoy Songkran here in Vientiane! I am however probably about half the age of most people on here so my idea of a good time is probably rather different....
Went to the Beer Lao party before which was great! Music on stage and water spraying from above on to the crowd and then a truck turned up and started spraying everyone!
So yeh for me personally I had a good time but it depends on what you want?
i want to get shitfaced but i also want to make it home alive
After two miserable years during Pi Mai, I found out how to enjoy it.
1. Do not stay in a village unless you want 3 days of noise, loud music and smoke.
2. Do not even think of riding a motorbike here after 9am in morning.
3. Best place to hang out. Near the NUOL. All the students are gone and it's kind of quiet.
4. I had a great dinnier with a bunch of Laos older people. I did eat some spicy Laos food and fish, no one was getting drunk, just having beer, listening to some Lao music (not loud) and having a little water dumped on me. What I've found is that Laos is a great place to retire. The people are great.
Well it's all over now....I went out of Vientiane on Sunday and got back yesterday lunch time, spent one day in Paksan and one day at Konglor caves, had a good time and a nice ride (700km there and back) Spent yesterday afternoon/early evening at the beer Lao party which was fun but even I will now admit that it was enough, I wouldn't want to spend all of Pi Mai there for sure as just end up drinking far too much!
I thought Songkran was a festival happening only in Thailand :-) Seems from the pictures that it might be just as "fun" as in Thailand though. Better stay indoors.
