Twenty percent discount on prescription meds here. Free entry to movies during the week. Priority seating on public transportation (so I hear). Plus a US Social Security check each month.

NZ it's free public transport which includes buses, trains and ferries. And super-discounted prescriptions and doctor visits.
Something to look forward to next decade and a half...unless they raise the age, which is likely.

(and the trains have free wifi...it was quite amusing last time I caught the train in Auckland to see all the youths and millenials on their phones, and there across the aisle was a retired couple, both of them engrossed in their wifi-connected tablets.

    ^Nice bump.
I guess it must be a bit shit if you are only 64, and the government tells you that your pension will not be paid until you are 65 and 9 months?
I did pick up a few free prescription in U.K. a few years ago. They come in at 60 apparently.

    Why would they do that?

Because that is the date it becomes payable for anyone with my birthdate. They are gradually moving the pay date for state pensions, further into the future. This is not news. It’s been going on for a while. In my case, they don’t have to pay my weekly pension for 9 months.
Multiply that by all the baby boomers born around the same time as me, and the governments pension liability is dramatically reduced.
The sliding scale of new qualifying dates means anyone younger than me will have to wait even longer.
As a general rule, we are living longer, so that will increase the liability. Extending the start date just eases the liability a bit. Can’t really argue with the logic of it.

Not sure but I think the compulsory retirement dates in some employment groups will also be raised, so those who wish to carry on working, can do.

Thanks for the reply. I just wondered about what you said as I just started receiving my pension last month. I must have been lucky in being born a year sooner than you.
