went to Fez Bar Friday evening to watch the AFL footy - great game.

but this is a decent pub, (report to follow later) owned by an Indian fella, so consequently the Indian food is very good, in fact they also have a resteraunt attached upstairs that do a sunday brunch all teh indian food you can eat for about $12, but its quality food.

Anyway, because it is Ramhadan we had to drink our beers out of coffee cups.... looked well weird to see a heap of expats watching footy and drinking tea/coffee.

Later that evenign (about 9 or 10ish) the staff heard word that the religious police were on their way, so we had to drink up any alochol and it was taken away, softdrinks were left on tables, lights on music band scarpered....

we didnt hang around long, went up the road to EAstern Promise, which wasnt being raided or closed that evening, i suspect it might be all about kickbacks and money.....

here's another linky about Eastern promise.... Jakarta Nite Out: Is Eastern Promise the best bar in Jakarta?

Is Eastern Promise the best bar in Jakarta?

Obviously an impossible question to answer but it sure has grown in popularity in the year or so since Lens took the place over.

According to the web stats for both this site and Pub Crawl Asia people out there spending a lot of time surfing the net for info on the Kemang watering hole. Eastern Promise, Kemang and even the folically challenged Lens features prominently in Google searches that are directed to this site.

Having original theme nights obviously helps. Not many bars round the world have free beer for baldies once a month and the salon opposite doesn't have do a roaring trade. Foir the next week men, and probably some women, are busily growing fanny ticklers for another dose of free ale. Fast foward another week and the hair is growing back and boy those dyes work well. And as for spectacles day!

I fought my way through the bukan puasa traffic jam in Keman last night to get a good seat and the bar was already doing a roaring trade. Not just the usual big fat silver top buggers, which of course includes me, but also a few Indonesians. A melting pot.

Plenty of younger punters as well. Dunno about these young pups though. They talk the talk but they're also goddamned skinny!!! Don't they drink much these lads? Jeez, I'd lost the abilty to see my pecker by the time I was 23, this lot? They look like a row of multi coloured pencils. Wearing seriously bad shirts. Lens is the same. Not an inch of lard on him and the guy, who was as much a part of the furniture at Bugils as the piano and Widi pervers, drinks like a fish. Where does it go? Seriously if I was necking 'em like he does I'd need a tailor for my grundies...t'ain't fair, no sir.

In fact I get free beer every monday,

first monday of the month - free to bald ppl
2nd monday of the month - free to anyone wearing a moustache
3rd monday is free to ppl wearing glasses, and the
last monday is free to anyone with grey hair!

    I fulfil all 4 requirements.....

They also have a new one on thursdays between 5-7. Free beer to the entire bar........

all free beer ceases once a single person either leaves the bar or goes to the toilet!

actually was there last nite, twas pumping, the back bar had the soccer game on and then a blues band took over, it was a little bit loud so we moved to the front bar and met up with some more mates.

was well stuffed by about 1.00am and having some conversation with some 40+ surfer dude about his clothing business.....

Went back to D'Place in Citos mall last night, Citos mall is south of south Jakarta, though technically still Jakarta, it's on the edge of the outer ring road, near Cipete.

Sat down to look at the menu......

erm, sorry sir, we only have Hienekin, Tiger or Anker.

    WTF?? ok anker thanks.

    then food menu....

Sorry sir we dont have the steak and ribs option, but we do have the steak and chicken... ok that will do. I was on the phone at the time, so pointing at the menu and thumbs up was about the extent of my efforts to order.

the missus ordered chicken wing entree....

Now normally she does that, orders an entree and maybe a salad etc, so I politely declined eating any, but she tells me they were good.

I have to sit and wait for my main, while fuming, why didnt she tell them to bring it all at ance...... and guess wot, cheeky bint ahd ordered a main as well and didnt tell me!

Anyway, I had Australin tenderloin with roast chicken, mash potato.... it was pretty good, pepper sauce was nice, but the chicken sauce was a little sweet.

She had chicken breast - tasted good as well.

the garlic bread was a little dry, the coleslaw thingy was pretty good, the vegetable mush... well Meh.

Then a decent little band set up in the corner, playing acoustic style songs (with amps) REM, Cure, U2, ballads and that sort of stuff, was decent night.

^ actually there exists a 2nd MAdDogs - on the 7th floor of the German University in Serpong. Its quite a large room and adjoins a large outdoor area rooftop. but it always seems to be empty. (and doesn't show any sport)

Found a new place, in a weird sort of outta the way place. It's called De Hooi, - i think that means The Place, in dutch.

Its smallish, wooden dark interior, several friendly staff, i didnt ask but i suspect they... erm... supplement their income.

The good news is this place is quite close to me, and, OPEN FOR BREAKFAST!

MtD will not be overly impressed however, as the only beers on tap are Bintang and Heiniken

KW - Hotel Aria Duta (sp?) used to have a club downstairs with excellent live music (2-3 bands each night) doing reggae, blues, funky jazz and the like - do you know if that place still exists?
