You really have to try the Indonesian Ricetable, a combination of 10 dishes all on one (or 2) plates, really awesome...especially the balinese satay lilit.

I would book a resort with great pools since the beaches are full of annoying vendors who will never leave you alone. Our resort (forget the name) had 5 great pools with bars and all, at night it was busy there with drinking/eating/swimming guests, nice music all was perfect.
It was also at walkingdistance from Kuta but i didn't like it there.

Have been to bali several times but those vendors are really annoying, for the rest it's very nice, especially the food. Will never forget the mini-bbq full of grilled satays served at the pool, bintang with that and seaview, very nice.

The daytours bring you to dancingshows and civetcoffee-farm, not impressive for me. The views are great all over the island. Also try to go to a local market to buy fruit, they have very different fruit than thailand if you can find it.

I would NEVER go during Xmas or Australian school holidays if I were you. :-)
According to the western media, the place is deserted, with tourism income costing the region millions in lost business.
I am booked to return on 18 December, Mt Agung permitting.
The airport is reacting to wind direction and potential ash clouds, as there is little else they can do.
Australian based airlines have continued to collect stranded tourists, but they are reluctant to return to scheduled flights.
Virgin Aus will make a decision today on resumption of flights.

Just checked on the DPS Website: https://www.baliairport.com/flight-s...ls-departures/

Majority of departures and arrival running as normal.

Some major airlines through Jakarta, KLM, Europe Air, Oman Air cancelled but local airlines, Garruda, Lion, Wings and Citilink operating Jakarta to Denpasar as per schedule.

I'm going to Bali soon and would appreciate some recommendations for a nice quiet and beautiful beach. I'm planning on also staying in the Ubud area

All along the West coast will be blown out with the monsoon winds and the beaches will be covered in shit and resembling a toilet. Happens every year. That's Kuta, seminyak, Tuban and all along that coast.

Head to the East coast, the winds are off shore and nice flat water abounds inshore.

So I suppose that means starting in Sanur and working your way North up the coast. Plenty of quiet beaches further North.

Hire ya self a motor with driver for the day and have a poke around.

    Cheap as chips.

    Expect rain as well.

Not exactly new i would think. Have seen a lot of Asia, Australia plus Europe but for the rest still have a long wishlist.

I've been all over Bali but those vendors made me stay away from it. I really love their food though, it's the best of Asia for me. That satay lilit is to die for, made of prawn/fish/coconut all ground and with some herbs they put it on a swewer.

Also the white Wani mango is something you have to try, i couldn't find it though.

I was in the resort on bali, walking to the beach while looking at the nice plants..then i got hit by a surfboard, a Sheila yelled that i should watch out..she walked behind us with her board and was so polite to let it hit me.

Those beachvendors even woke me up while i was sleeping on my mat (Kuta beach) to sell me another mat. Boy do i despise them...every minute another vendor came to annoy us, even when you pretend to sleep.

At the Borobudur they tried to sell me tshirts but i wouldn't pay their price...then those vendors followed our coach all day and when we stopped they came to me again with that shirt.
So i went in the coach after 10 minutes hassling, there they showed it at my window nonstop while yelling to me, so i had to close the curtains to not see them anymore. Next busstop they came again..
At the resorts they wait at the beach for guests to harass, i runned into the sea to get rid of them but they even followed me into waiste-deep water with their merchandise....terrible.

April, May and June are the best months to go but even then the beaches arent all that, you'll find better in Thailand.
You should get a nice view of that volcano erupting up in the mountains of Ubud

Things you can still do when its pissing down are white water rafting and surfing which will both be more adrenalin packed and sitting in the hot spas near the lake(and volcano)

i was very disappointed in Bali, compared to my last trip in 2002 it has truly been overrun and ruined, Beaches are nothing compared to Thailand , food is expensive, traffic is really bad and i was there in the LOW low season.
Amed beach was nice BUT u cant really hang out on the beach, (great views of My Agung- there is a sunset point where everyone heads for a beer) , as the black sand/rocks are VERY hot in the daytime. same goes for Lovina beach.

Went to Tanah Lot and although picturesque, cant see what all "most go" is about, at 11 am it was crowded, at sunset it must be a zoo.
The area around Mt Batur is nice BUT dont try and ride around the volcano, there are hundreds of trucks and the dust they create is almost unbearable.

You need barter HEAVILY, needed a convertor for my plugs, went to a few shops ,they wanted 150,000 (thats like $US11.50) thought, fuck in Phuket its 120 baht. offered 40,000 third shop accepted, Tee shirts wanted 150,000, got them for 50,000, if ur anywhere where the tourists are, fried rice and a coke was 50,000, on the west coast where no tourists was paying 15,000

Plenty of beautiful resorts on the beach when i was there i was paying 250,000-400,000 high season the rates triple.
I wouldn't ever advise anyone to go during high season as all along the east coast & Udud it must be maxed out.
Ubud's traffic, when the tourist bus's pull in, ( around 11 am- 5 pm) was the worst i have seen anywhere in SE Asia, Thousands of shops.

Mt Agung, still hasn't blown and no one seems to know when ( yes it will) it will blow

Update on Agung, Tuesday 5th December 2017
Airports: both Bali and Lombok: OPEN with flights going
Aviation level: Orange - the second highest
Volcano warning level: IV (4) the highest
SAFE: Bali is safe, except the area in the radius of 8 to 10 km from the summit crater of Agung.

The crater appeared to be filling quite fast. It was projected that if this filling continues at current rates, it would fill in the next 5-10 days, with the potential for lava spilling over the crater and fast-flowing hot avalanches (known as pyroclastic flows), but only if there is a large enough magma supply and the eruption continues. Episodes of tremors continue to occur, indicating the upward movement of magma, and ground monitors showed the inflation of the ground.
Flights from China have been suspended until the threat of volcanic ash clears, according to the People’s Daily. Despite the resumption of flights and Bali’s airport being open since last Wednesday, China Southern and China Eastern have withdrawn flights awaiting clearance from the Civil Aviation Administration of China.
It might surprise you to learn that the biggest tourists to Bali no longer come from Australia. Tourists from China are now the largest percentage, totalling over a million, and those from China/Hong Kong and Taiwan now make up nearly a quarter of arrivals.

Seriously mate, do the river rafting. It was amazing and scenery to die for.

All the beaches are on the west. Hire a scooter and go explore. Loads to do in Ubud and a great base

20 years ago was my first time on Bali, i remember in Ubud that clothesmarket had double pricetags...when a Japanese touristbus arrive they just flipped all the pricetags and when they were gone they flipped them again. Had to tell them many times that i wasn't Japanese and refused to pay the double price. Sometimes that worked.

Few years ago i was there again and hired a car plus driver (got a guide for free with it because the driver couldn't speak a word english). They brought us to loads of touristic places but everywhere we were forced to buy something or give a tip.
Then somewhere the police stopped the taxi and demanded teamoney from the driver which he gave immediatly.

I liked it the most inside the resorts, outside all those vendors keep on yelling and pushing. Most of them are from Java and the Balinese aren't happy with them either. The resort had a guard at the beachexit 24hrs or they would even come in.

You don't have to buy anything from the locals and their tripled prices, there are big souvenhirshops/supermarkets which sell the same stuff for normal prices.

Sad that the Indonesian government can't protect their tourists a bit better. That's why i won't go back. But it's sure a very nice island.

I think you'll find Punty that Bali is exactly the same as Thailand. Use ya brain a tad, suss out the proper price of stuff and away ya go. That includes food, tours and renting stuff.

The beach's can be really nice or quite fooked, all depends on when ya visit and which beach's ya visit.

Phuket Dick is on the crack again so ignore his ramblings of Whoa. Fooking Bolliks.

Have a great time mate, you will.

Despite your claims to the contrary and what you describe as considerable experience in Asian travel, you are coming over as naive in the extreme. I’m surprised you have never been mugged on your travels. You certainly have no true travel experiences going by what you’ve posted so far. It’s possible to excuse the thick tourist on a first visit, but you seem to make the same basic mistakes every time you visit.

Maybe Terry was right and you are just a very poor troll?
