I have heard this! What about hiring a scooter or bicycle? Where did you stay in Bali, as you said you were there for a month? Which place can you recommend, Chass?
I booked a flight last month for Oct 5,200 baht R/t phuket- bali.
am renting 125 bike in Kuta and heading around the island. Its been 14years since i was last there so expect to see lots of changes.
I would NEVER go during Xmas or Australian school holidays if I were you. :-)

Knowing Katie she would probably 'contract' one by negotiation.
What about renting a scooter or bicycle, did you do this?

Good for you! That's cheap ! I'm paying 650$ and that's with a discount Chinese airline. I realize it will be busy at Christmas, but it's the only time I can go. I get three weeks holidays. Enjoy phuketrichard and take pics, please!

@bn - I was there the week between xmas and NY. Peak holiday season, lots of Aussies& their families. Pre-book your gaff if staying downtown. If you have 3 weeks, you can have a leisurely time exploring. Re: rains, it only rained on my last night there. My day trips were sunny. Re: scooter, if you're confident with one, then renting one for the duration of your stay would be the cheapest option. Maybe you could spent one week downtown ( Seminyak or Kuta) then head up to the mountains for the remaining time. Cheers!

The phone # of the driver that I still have is the one from Puerto Galera, not from Bali. Have deleted it, as that was years ago.

Yes as I already said in previous post. I just got someone else to drive it.
It is a huge risk in resort areas unless you are a qualified motorcyclist and you know your way around.
Grab taxis and motorbikes are ridiculously cheap and reliable. They tell you the fare before you start the journey and they all have GPS. I never waited more than five minutes for them to arrive, even for my 4am airport pick up.

I have visited Bali on 4-5 occasions for family holidays and to visit friends who have a few businesses there ( Home - Scallywags Resorts) Great place if you keep away from Kuta. I hired a 4x4 and driver to explore Bali and then went to Komodo, Gili T and Gili Air. I was there once for the Bali New Year, 'Nyepi' a wonderful experience i have never seen a night sky like it. Its all there to be enjoyed.

The stupid fuks who hate on Bali always bang on about Kuta being a Doss hole.

In fact Kuta has a fantastic beach and a lot going for it if ya know where to go and stay. Lots going on. Vibrant live music scene for one.

The fact that Bali is between AUD and Thailand is just fantastic for me.

I'll be back in Poppies 1 soon.

Great to be cashed up and free.

    Let the plebs bitch on.

    Look,

I just want to expand a bit about these fools who go to Bali and shit can it because they don't like Kuta.

It's like the retard going to Pattaya and saying that they hate Thailand because Pattaya is a stinking dirty shit hole full of farang filth.

Whilst they may have Pattaya sorted out Thailand is a beautiful country outside Pattaya innit.

I wouldn't compare Kuta with Pattaya, because Pattaya has The Gent, so it's an unfair comparison.
    Just saying like

My dear Terence, the issue isn't Kuta per se, it's the preponderance of the thousands of deeply unattractive trashy Ockers that festoon the place and environs with their ghastly bodies, worse manners and lumpen behaviour which they communicate through the medium of alcohol.
Pattaya has many demerits but at least we are spared the awfulness of raddled oikish bogan Antipodean trash in any significant numbers.

^Whatever floats yer boat. Some people like Kuta and the ones that don't can avoid it. You can't classify a whole island based on one beach. And Pattaya has trash as well.. including big, fat western men who go there for cheap sex. And yes, if you want to call Australian people trash who drink and party, then I can call western men who go to Pattaya for cheap sex trash.

Replace the bogans with Russians, brits, Arabs, Koreans, Chinese, Japs and Turks. The lower case b in brits is both appropriate and deliberate.

Nothing wrong with the working class taking a well earned vacation. The sheer volume of them takes a little getting used to. A bit like Terry putting up with all the socks and sandal wearing smelly pomgolians in Bangers. 555

On the contrary...we never saw any badly behaved recycled poms. In fact I find the recycled ones better behaved than the original non criminal forefathers.

    And more hygienic!

Yer well i reckon id give those socks and sandles a run and check em out.

I cut the toes out of the socks and found that the stinky part of wearing them was sorted.

just back; Motorcycled the entire Island in 13 days with many stops
mt Agung did not blow, but smoking every day
    Tourist numbers down 30%
Last trip was 2002, I will NOT be going back, VERY crowded and i was in a low low season ,must be crazy in high season, Traffic in Kuta and Ubud VERY bad
MORE expensive than Phuket, Except for MacDonalds and Burger king.
    Beaches nicer in Phuket

Caters to the drinking Australian's RICH Indonesian and Chinese crowd
