    Indonesia executes four drug traffickers

World News Friday 29 July 2016

    Indonesia executes four drug traffickers

The Indonesian government has executed four drug traffickers, giving a reprieve of uncertain duration to 10 others it had said would also be put to death.

One Indonesian and three Nigerians were executed by firing squad not long after midnight local time, deputy attorney-general Noor Rachmad said.
The government has not decided when the other executions will take place, he said.

Earlier this week Indonesia's attorney-general said 14 people, mostly foreigners, would be executed.
Relatives, rights groups and foreign governments had urged Indonesia to spare their lives.

It is the third set of executions under President Joko "Jokowi" Widodo, who was elected in 2014 and campaigned on promises to improve human rights in Indonesia.

Those executed were Indonesian Freddy Budiman and Nigerians Seck Osmane, Michael Titus and Humphrey Jefferson. The bodies of Osmane and Titus will be flown to their home country and Jefferson will be buried in Indonesia.
Lawyers and rights groups had raised serious doubts about the legitimacy of the conviction of Jefferson as well as the convictions of an Indonesian woman and a Pakistani man.

"It was not a pleasant thing but it was to implement the law," said Mr Rachmad. "The executions are only aimed at halting drug crimes."
He said a decision about other executions would be announced at a later time.

Last year, Indonesia executed 14 people convicted of drug crimes, mostly foreigners, sparking an international outcry.

And the Policeman at the front in the mask, wearing a similar mask as the soon to be shot traffickers , "I dont want a blue shirt, can I wear a bullet proof vest"
    Cant blame him
Right : "We got these four guys to execute in blue shirts and balaclavas"
"But theres eight of them "
"Shoot them all and dont worry about any protests"

Indonesia executions: Prisoners took up to 15 minutes to die, priest says.

    By Indonesia correspondent Samantha Hawley.

    Posted about 3 hours ago

RELATED STORY: Indonesia gives death row inmates 72 hours' notice of executions
RELATED STORY: Four killed by firing squad as Indonesia carries out latest round of executions.

A Catholic priest who was at the Nusakambangan prison in Indonesia during the firing squad execution of four people says some prisoners took up to 15 minutes to die.

Father Charles Burrows, who is based in Cilacap near the prison, was called there to speak with two of the 14 people originally scheduled for execution, but who were later spared.

Deputy Attorney-General for General Crimes Noor Rachmad confirmed one local and three Nigerian drug convicts were executed by firing squad.

Father Burrows said he had not "got word" if the executed prisoners suffered, but he knew the time it took them to die.

"The first time, it was seven to eight minutes, and then there were some of the other times it was 15 minutes and they still weren't, hadn't expired," he said.

"And the captain has to wait with a pistol and shoot into the brain."

Father Burrows said he went with the other ministers from different spiritualities to the "shooting place", because there was no time to speak with them in their cells, with great confusion in the lead-up to the execution.

He said it was a "traumatic experience".

The ministers prayed together while four ministers spoke to the four men who were executed.

"They were given some minutes to talk to the prisoners or console them somewhat," he said.

"Then they came back and the prisoners were tied to the stakes. And then they went, were given another few minutes.

"They were shot pretty quickly after that."

'They tried to die with dignity'

Father Burrows said the executed prisoners were "seemingly" blindfolded first, and remained dignified until the end.

"There was a lot of anger in the first state, not last night," he said.

"But eventually … they realise they're going to die, so you best try and die with dignity."

The Indonesian Attorney General has refused to explain why 10 prisoners, including one Indonesian woman, received an 11th hour reprieve from the firing squad.

Indonesian authorities gave the inmates 72 hours' notice before they faced the firing squad.

Amnesty International condemned the executions, with the group's Rafendi Djamin labelling them "a deplorable act".

"Any executions that are still to take place must be halted immediately. The injustice already done cannot be reversed, but there is still hope that it won't be compounded," he said.
There were claims a number of prisoners had received unfair trials and some had allegedly been tortured to confess.

well, the indonesians certainly dont mess about, apparently there were three prisoners who were reprieved minutes before they were due to be led out and tied to the stakes to be executed.

The rules of drug engagement in Indonesia are pretty much the same anywhere in SE Asia in that bribery of the authorities secures a much lesser sentence or, in some cases, no conviction at all.

Given that drug importation and distribution is dependent upon agreement between the gangsters, law enforcement, the judiciary and politicians it is only right that only the lowest of the low, the drug mules, are actually punished.

That some folk here actually think this is a good or welcome state of affairs is really no more than a testament to their innate stupidity.

Shooting a dog in such circumstances would offend the cvunts more in this forum.

    stroller
    your cuppa tea, right?
stroller you fucking loon, whilst i may have no objection to the use of capital punishment on those convicted on the basis of irrefutable and properly gathered evidence, it would appear that these unfortunate fellows were convicted on confessions obtained by torture and coercement and no one in their right mind can approve of capital punishment in those circumstances, even for nigerians and pakistanis.
