    Bali Beaches

well apart from all the locked up aussie drug dealers bali can be a nice place to visit for a holiday.

plenty to offer a diverse range of travellers. this trip i didnt want to stay on Kuta - since its a bit busy and all and i had my son with me.

I booked the Bali Hai - 4 star rooms on the beach for about $30-$40 bucks a night. for some reason they mucked up my booking and I ended up being put into their $100? villa instead. ( google them - they have a website ) it was in a place called Seminyak - which is slightly quieter (and more expensive than Kuta, about 20 mins up the road/beach or so)

There is also some good nightclubs in this area as well - Double 6 - is open late and tends to play thump thump musik!

it had a private swimming pool, outside spa, 2 bungalows for up to 4 ppl, and a private garden, very nice....

here is our swimming pool, thats me enjoying a swim

    and practising our 'bombs'

you can always use the main pool instead if you prefer, it has a bar (of course)

view of our room - sorry forget to make the bed... it had a tv vdo ipod etc

    playtime...

view on the beach, this was through the private door that the villa had onto the beach - the day before some couple got married here (western couple i think)

nice beachy place to have seafood - its called Jimbaran, quite famous place to have seafood, its about 10 mins from Kuta beach in a taxi
but beware, many taxi's will get a 'tip' for dropping you off at their recommended place. (notice the airplane taking off in the background)

some random locals watching their father fishing...

just to expand upon that point a little further

    from here Bali Restaurant Guide

THE BALI RESTAURANT GUIDE TO JIMBARAN BEACH

The best place for fresh seafood is still Jimbaran Beach with its rows of open restaurants right on the sandy beach near the Bali Inter-Continental Resort and between the Keraton Hotel and the airport. The number of eateries is fast increasing, but the original six restaurants on the airport side of the Keraton Hotel (LIA is our favorite) are still the most reasonably priced, and they serve the same delicious food. All kinds of fresh fish, squid, crabs, prawns, and lobsters are prepared on the open grill (burning coconut husks instead of charcoal) with exotic herbs and spices.
A large grilled snapper with vegetable, salad, rice, potatoes, several sauces, and different sambals costs for instance at LIA's around 40,000 Rupiah per kilo; one kilo of grilled prawns is about 90,000 Rupiah, lobster (actually crayfish) 250,000 Rupiah per kilo, and a large bottle of beer is 12,500 Rupiah. Not extremely cheap any more but still good value for money, and a great place to watch Bali's famous sunset!
However, be warned: the 25 or so restaurants between Inter-Continental and the Four Seasons resort charge much higher prices (they pay 30% and even 40% commission to drivers and guides), and their prices for wine are rediculous! Visitors to the restaurants closer to the fishing harbor (near the airport) AND the restaurants between the Inter-Continental and the Four Seasons often complain on the "BALI travel FORUM" about being overcharged and/or cheated on the weight of the fish or lobster they ordered.
Forum contributor Dell wrote on July 19th, 1999, after a visit to the often recommended Cafe Intan: "I suspect they all have rigged scales. To walk to the surf after dusk, then turn around and let your gaze scan the hundreds of flickering table candles which stretch far into the distance and contemplate the scale of the fraud that is being perpetuated every night is a humbling experience." (Just an idea: if you take a full bottle of water it's easy to test the scales.)

I went to Bali last Christmas and thought that their beaches there were over rated. I enjoyed visiting the local galleries and museums though. Their paintings are psychedelic. Shrooms are already illegal in Bali, except if you go up to Lovina and that area.

well, that's a hard question, if ya go during Dec/Jan its gonna be full of Aussies on holiday...

but if ya go july-august then its gonna be full of loud mouthed brits....

hmmmm, neither a good option really.

but as far as the nitelife, beaches etc go. anytime is pretty much a good time to go, there is always stuff happening.

    Beaches

I don't know if the beach at Kuta is still polluted but several years ago, it was a real problem.
