KM's Pic Posting Tutorial - with pics!

KM's Pic Posting Tutorial - with pics!
Uploading pics to TeakDoor Gallery. The explanation for each step is under each pic.

At the top of every page you’ll see these header choices. Left click on Gallery.

The page which opens looks like this. Move your mouse to the little house on the left at the top of the screen.

When you hover over the house you’ll see these options. Click on ‘upload file’.

This tutorial presumes you’re uploading a file from your own computer, so click ‘browse’.

It will open the directory on your computer. Locate the files you want to upload. Select them one at a time.

Either double click on the highlighted file or click ‘open’. Result will move your file to TD’s upload.

Repeat this process to a maximum of ten files. You’ll need to scroll down to the bottom of the page to see the blue button marked ‘continue’.

Click ‘continue and wait until you get the following message.

When you see the ‘successful uploads’ screen you can click ‘continue’ again.

Now you have to decide where you want the file kept on your TD gallery. Click the down arrow ‘v’ for ‘select album’.

Choose which album you want to place the pic in and underneath type anything you want to say about the pic. Then click ‘continue’.

If you’ve done it correctly TD will tell you that it has been successful. You will need to repeat this process for every pic you uploaded which is tedious to say the least.
Now, if you want to see your pics DO NOT click ‘continue’ or you will be taken to the gallery front page.

Go back to the little house at the top of the screen and click ‘My gallery’.

The screen which opens will show all your albums. If you have many you’ll need to scroll down to find the newest one which loads at the bottom. (Admin are you reading this).

Click on your new album which here is ‘Pics Tutorial’.

This will open all the pics in this particular album. Click on the pic you want to post.

If you want to post the pic in this size right click and select ‘copy image location’.
Be careful NOT to select ‘copy link location’. If you want to show the pic in the full size of the file then first you must click on the pic itself to increase the size, like this.

Now you can right click and select ‘copy image location’.

Now, go back to the thread on the forum where you wanted to post the pic and click on the yellow box of the mountains. This will open the url page. Easiest way for this step is to use the key board. Press ‘Ctrl v’ which will paste the url link of your pic. You can use the mouse to paste with but make sure you delete the ‘http’ which is already there, otherwise you’ll get it twice and your pic will not show.

If you’ve done this correctly you will be able to see some of your pic in the small screen before you click ‘Post Quick Reply’.

If you see the little square box instead of your pic you have selected ‘copy link location’ instead of ‘copy image location’.

Now really, this is quite a process, but once you’ve done it a couple of times you will be able to do it quite quickly.

For most of my travel threads I load them to one of my own websites and just link from there. Good for SEOs both for me and for TD.

For general things though, I upload pics to my gallery and link from there.

    Hope this helps. Cheers. KM…

^just giving something back to the board...

do yours as well...really the pics thing is difficult to navigate your way around so every little helps...

just hope DD unstickies his 'tutorial'...better to leave this kind of stuff to the 'teachers'...

Mate, don't you think that the very fact that you have to go to so much trouble with yet another tutorial should tell TD something?
It's just too complicated a system and denies many would be contributors the opportunity to share their pics?
I have tried on numerous occasions and given up in disgust , once I thought I had found my way through the maze and downloaded 10 pics , but no , it turns out the total size of the 10 exceeded the maximum acceptable ( no sign of that advice that I could see . no doubt someone will point out that if I look under the little house , click 4 times and ask for Bob all will be revealed.)
I suggest TD administration try a download on carsales.com and see how easy it could or should be done?
I, and I am sure many others would love to share their pictorial experiences on TD but like me were totally frustrated and now can't be bothered.
Spacecraft would have simpler instruction manuals.

    Quoting Klongmaster:
We know it's difficult to use which is why I went to the trouble of making this pictorial...

You openly admit it's difficult to use yet you persevere? that's a bit like swimming upstream against the current with a pocket full of rocks when all you had to do was buy a ticket on the ferry?

Thanks for the effort , I will give it a try - fimly believe the process needs to be simplified though. I apologise if my other comments appeared to be directed at you personally - I was trying to get the message through to TD administration and mistakenly thought that was you.
    'umble sevant sir !

I like to add that one needs to create an album first before one can choose one to move the pics to, which should be done before you upload the pics.
I managed to delete an album including pics messing around on that page.

Also, before uploading the file from your computer, you might want to first resize it to 800 x 600 pixels. This size is perfect for posting (no scrolling across because the picture's too wide).

Blimey, that looks difficult when you put it like that.

I think you might have put them all off Klongie.

Many kudos. Great stuff but a bit user unfriendly. Think I will only upload pics if I need more than a thousand words in a post.

A little off topic but is it possible to upload a file (word, excel etc.) in a PM?

Yes your 100% correct Stroller: pain in the arse trying to move files to a folder if you load the pic before making the folder...

it's actually a lot easier than it loks.

once you have created an album, it doesn't take more than a minute or 2 to upload the pics onto the forum.

As with anything new in the IT world, at first glance changing from old habits seem difficult. I'm sure I will master pics in no time. Thanks.

CMN you have 15872 posts at the time of this posting and have no doubt used the upload function countless times...

this was not really aimed at you...just designed to help the many TDers who express confusion about how to do it...

if this tutorial is too difficult for them to follow it will not attract any hits so don't worry...

Or maybe you can see another century thread in the making which you did not start...bummer CMN...

I uploaded 14 pics for my curry thread, and the gallery isn't very nice to use. I might start using my own gallery again as I can upload them just as easily as moving them to a different directory on my PC.

Still looks daunting for some one that has never done pictures before and knows nothing about computers.

We will wait for the feed back.

Its very important to resize the pics to 600 by 800 as this makes the upload so much quicker.

I learn't that the hard way.

Using the 600 by 800 format gives a full size picture.

Why piss around uploading small photos after going to the trouble of getting them there in the first place.

Makes no sense to me at all and takes away from the photo.

    Bollicks to that.

Thank you for this thread. I already figured out how to get the pictures uploaded from any thread in this forum. The one problem I did have was that I usually use Internet Explorer and there isn't an option to "copy image location" when you right-click. I got around this by actually bringing up Firefox to view my gallery.

Forgive me all for not resizing my pictures first as suggested above.

    I always resize to 600 x 450 at 60% compression.

You are quite correct Art: I never use IE but you can get around this by right-clicking on the pic and selecting 'properties'. Then cope the URL.
