    Spelling and grammar check

Does the forum have a spelling and grammar check function? Because of the unconventional way I construct my sentences I find that my posts are very slow on the uptake so much so that posting becomes an agonizing and painful task.

    Any positive suggestions?

    All input is welcome.

^ You are best off typing in MS Word or some other app and running the spell check etc then copy and paste into the post.

Don't know what to do on phones tho.

    EDIT

    wait for Neverna to answer

Change the way you construct your sentences? They are painful enough to read as it is.

Right click on any underlined words and it will give you suggestions for corrections.

Yes Plan B this I know. I guess I could handle the spell check, it's quite handy but the grammar check

I'm thinking that the two functions are slowing down my posting ? Perhaps the two aren't even related?

    Cheers my friend.

If it's the grammar find out what KlongDyck uses and do the opposite.

You must be new here; just post, settle back and let TDs own spell/grammar/critique/fact check fix any oversights for you. So far it consists of a monkey which you've met, a squirrel and a rat, victims of severe childhood trauma, now dedicated to the smooth running of this forum.

Attempting that was unwise - way beyond you.

Why not just ‘communicate’ via pm with jabir until feeding time?

We have here one who sharply observes our Dinglish, however, he does it kindly and generously to some only (and not to himself), depends on whether you agree with his views and his matter-of-fakes comments. He enhances my word-stock with words I cannot find in Webster...

BTW, when I type (in English) - in any program - and the word is not really OK, it's marked automatically, underlined in red. Not sure which kind software I am having makes it for me.

Whether a small program WordWeb? It can be downloaded for free (Wordweb.info) when truly answered how much you fly within a year (wondering what happens when your answer is not really truly). With this invention any word you mark up you get explained the meaning and few examples of the usage, or a suggestion of a correct spelling.

There is some truth to those words. Even though I edit part-time and have often critiqued others for their misappropriations, there is something snobbish and condescending about expecting others to speak the Queen's English. After all, the intent of communication is to understand one another, not to copy what others consider "correct" form. As John Maynard Keynes said, "Words ought to be a little wild, for they are the assaults of thoughts on the unthinking".

Btw, editors commonly use spell checkers. There are many free ones on-line. They are an indispensable tool to the writing process, allowing a writer to get ideas down on paper/screen, which is often the most difficult part, without filling their head with mundane matters such as spelling and punctuation. I tell my students and clients not to worry about spelling until all the writing is finished. But don't rely on grammar checkers. The rules around grammar are far too grey and ever changing to rely on them with any degree of certainty.

    Thanks elche.

I appreciate the spell check function. I do find the grammar check quite intrusive. So much of style is related to one's individual and unique use of grammar. I can't imagine that people who rely on that function have anything very creative to share. This is a massive generalization I know and I stand to be enlightened.

    cheers
