Exclamation Important: Photobucket Breaks Image Links Across the Internet

As many posters will have noticed by now a large number of images on the forum have been replaced by an image saying "PLEASE UPDATE YOUR ACCOUNT TO ENABLE 3RD PARTY HOSTING",

This is a preemptive action taken by Photobucket and is affecting users and sites all across the Internet.

Photobucket have, without warning, changed their Terms and Conditions and no longer allow hot-linking of images on any account other than their most expensive offering. This is the P500 plan and costs $399 per year.

As Photobucket host over 10 billion images the knock-on effects have been huge.

Photobucket defines "third-party hosting" as embedding an image on another website. This will not only effect forums but will also effect Ebay, Amazon, Craigslist and any other site where users have embedded photos which are hosted on Photobucket.

It is to be hoped that the backlash caused by this sudden and unannounced change will force Photobucket to think again and restore third-party hosting for all levels of user.

It's very important to be aware that no photos have been deleted, they are still available on your Photobucket account.

As no Photos have been deleted we ask you to please not delete any currently broken photo threads on Teakdoor as your photos will reappear on Teakdoor if Photobucket relax their new Terms and Conditions.

For those who would like to host their photos elsewhere they are welcome to host them in the Teakdoor gallery. For those who wish to link their photos to other websites there are a number of other image-hosting sites available. No doubt many TD members will be able to provide information and guidance on their own favourite image-hosting sites.

    Good point.
    Yeah, sound advice.
Yet, if PB doesn't rescind their new policy it could be a mess.

    Hope for the best.

    Good point.
I suppose people could re-link broken images to another image host but I think there's a time-limit where you're no longer allowed to edit your own posts.

Well, I guess people could always stay with the easy-to-use provider that's just blocked their photographs from the internet and demanded a $400 ransom to release them

Even finding those posts would prove to be extremely difficult unfortunately.

And it just might be growing and profitable trend among the more popular image hosting/storage sites, if not existing already.

Apparently it uses bandwidth to hot link pics and that costs.
I billion pics and 100m users worldwide, don't suppose it could have gone on for ever existing on google ads revenue or maybe PB are being greedy.
At the end of the day they've broken there agreement with users and holding the WWW to ransom.
Maybe they should charge the websites affected the $400 a year instead of the users, just a thought.

There are proper ways to go about monetising their site though. An unannounced overnight change which blocked millions of images is not the way to do it. God knows what they thought they were doing, how could any business person have thought that that could possibly work? Were they inspired by the recent ransomware attacks?

Heh, just noticed that the first line of Photobucket's entry on Wiki has been moved into the past tense

Photobucket was an American image hosting and video hosting website, web services suite, and online community.

    FOR FUCS SAKE MODS;
Will you please, after all this time, please upgrade the gallery posting system.
Which, as I understand it, is not expensive but far, far better than the archaic system currently in place.

This forum thrives on its photo threads.
Be it building, travel, adventure, family, construction, news, sex, rumour or innuendo it's all good.

PLEASE, let's get a simple, easy to use, user friendly, photo posting system that will enhance the forum, improve the threads and make everyone moist with excitement.

    Please.

I'll donate, again if you do

I don't mind the Teakdoor gallery.

A bit fiddly at first but easy when you know how.

If you could 'add all photos' to a chosen gallery at once instead of one at a time would be good.

Hopefully the powers that be will get it sorted soon.

I could be banging a Thai picture thread up a day if it took five minutes, the amount of quirky and wonderful scenes I've snapped here.
