Cost of private nursing and homes

I've searched for this topic with no luck and apologies if it is somewhere!
I am looking into the (I hope!) future when the time will come that I need to have some care, be that at home or in an old people's home or worse, nursing home.
    The questions are:
What is the cost of and where could I find a private nurse(s)?
Cost of old people's homes that will have a mix of Thai and farang
Cost of nursing homes that will have a mix of Thai and farang
I have found a few Thai homes online but they seem rather expensive considering the low wages paid. They start at close to 1,000,000 baht a year! That is only about 200,000 less than than the UK. In fairness, the care is probably far better, but it still seems a lot.
    Any ideas?

There's a big debate at the moment about the funding of care for the elderly in the U.K.
It's the responsibility of the local council to fund and care for the elderly , so it can be free to a pensioner.
In Thailand though I've never heard of a Farang living in a Thai care home in his later years of aging , they die before they get to that state.

For that price, and depending on exactly what your needs would be, it might be cheaper, more convenient, and more agreeable/congenial to just find a good wife (assuming you aren't already married).

    Good luck.

That is a damn interesting observation. I've never heard of it either.

Exactly. I'm 66 and I told my Thai GF, who is 60, that I was planning to move to Portugal in 2017 with no plans to return and right away she goes into down-the-road mode where we will get back together then when I'm 70 or 75.

Forget nursing homes. Ones I have seen are horrid.
Rent a 2 br condo. Hire live in care giver/maid.
Cost about 400k baht per year.

My Handbag recons the Government is looking at building nursing condos for Cashed up Thais to be looked after.

But labor is that cheap here that a live in maid is very affordable.

    See what happens.

Yup, as norton says. Cheaper, better, more personalised. Might even come with fringe benefits.

    Going rate in Chiangmai;
    New build, quiet, semi-rural.

Bt400,000/year (= Bt30,000/mth plus food) including all meals, own room, h/c ensuite, small verandah, aircon, tv and internet, regular daily care and medical service.

There is, but as it stands if you have more than £23,250 in assets, you have use those assets (which includes your house) to pay for your care.
I visited my ex Thai father in law in a home outside of Sukhothai and there were farangs there - Austrian/ Germans/ Swiss - at least they sounded Germanic!
For the record, it was a clean place, but with shared rooms (3 in a room). It was basic, but clean, with gardens, communal centres and appeared well run and the staff seemed pleasant.

Several folk say, it's cheaper to get a "nurse" to move in, but where do you get one, as I asked initially?
I don't mean just a girlfriend/ wife, which is fine in the short term as long as you're happy to have the crap that can go with that.
I mean someone who really knows what they are doing and should be registered.

Not sure where you live- but in Ubon here, it's as simple as asking around.

    That's a thing I've thought about
If it goes tits up you might as well go back to your home country or just drink yourself to death
What fun could be had in being in a care home with dubious care and foreign languages etc when you're wits may be waning
    Sounds lonely

Valid point, of course and one of the never ending ex-pat topics. More seem to favour staying in Thailand.

I'm not sure for the reasons you state or being in your own Thai home with a woman with whom you can't have a decent conversation and, if you're lucky an occasional visit from someone who may feel duty bound to visit you.

On the other hand, quite a lot of care homes in the UK are unpleasant. I've worked in a few, not as a member of staff, but as an outside contractor. It's hit and miss, some are excellent with non stop activities, having lots of fun and in others they are slumped in chairs, just "waiting for the hand of God".

Oh, by the way, I'm currently in sterling health, mentally and physically (fingers crossed, not wishing to tempt fate!), but it's good to know options. I know a few folk in Thailand who are closing to needing full time care.
Another off centre alternative is to be permanently on a cruise ship - apparently it's the same cost as a cheap care home. An American woman in her 80's said it was wonderful - everything taken care of - staff fussed over you - handsome young men danced with you (I don't know if pretty young girls do the same, lol!). I had a quick look and there are cruises for solos at about £320+ a week.

Cheers all Here's hoping none of us need this - sadly we'll definitely have friends who will do , as I have now.

Yep, agreed, it's not something I fancy, but I know 2 couples who love them. Each to their own, eh?

On cruise ships there's plenty of rich lonely spinsters that just want a sexy man with Pattaya credentials to satisfy their lust.

Why isn't there more serious discussions especially on the net of the euthanasia option? It should legalized everywhere for the terminally ill and also for adults older than a certain age. I don't know what that age should be though.
