Fresh is good, but apparently frozen veg can be even better if it has been snap frozen which locks in the goodness.

I think that tinned veg has largely disappeared these days, with the exception of mushy peas. They are just great and are hard to make fresh at home, but I'm sure they have a host of additives including salt and sugar.

Edit. And rhubarb. You have to buy tinned if you want to eat rhubarb in Thailand.

Actually the ditch digging in various parts of the globe over some 40 years has enabled me to own the house in Australia, and the house in Lao is fully owned returning us $1200 USD monthly( $5000 aud every quarter, I have savings, quite a robust superannuation account from.my riotinto days and savvy investments of my stock portfolio consisting of high yield dividend producing blue chips at nearly 60 I consider myself quite well of. The small business that I started here is going well also. In Asia I lived a similar lifestyle to stumpy but as the kids got older we realised that it wasn't sustainable to remain permanently in Asia for the sake of the kids education we moved to Australia. Yes it's been quite a ride and I wouldn't change a thing.i was referring to YOU only being able to dream.of living the dream. I've been grinning like a large Alsatian for years and the wobbly pops are a Reward for my perseverance and wise investment business acumen . You my sad little friend will.have to just dream on or just keep pulling yourself over the threads that the over achievers of td have been up to.

    ^ Top job Blindo.

Do they sell that San Mig Lite out yer way? Still get the full 5%, though as they go down like water you just drink more of them than normal Kcal beer which kinda negates the point.

The lovebite from me ankles-over-arse bicycle crash / near-death-experience is starting to show.

A lovely 1 hour Sunday arvo sesh with Edith of upper and lower abs, traps, biceps and lats while watching the UFC prelims.

That M-Dern is one tough cookie. That Chinese bloke Zhang is one funny fooker. Wins a prelim bout and calls out Pereira to headline UFC300 haha.

Sunday evening drive, Sunday evening resto, chill with the UFC maincard and out for a glorious Man United victory.

What's not to love about this gloriously healthy life. :-)

The fact that you can only dream of living well suggests you have not managed your money well and are financially illiterate as well as being culturally and literally illiterate.
One would have thought that expat ditch digging paid a decent tax free wage, and those shovel jockeys who didnt spaff their money on diseased ethiopian prostitutes and booze would be well set up for life once retired. You obviously have little to show for your years of hard labour apart from cirrhosis and a bloated gut and maybe thats why you can only dream of a better life.

Stumpy has a decent life, hes got a decent gaff and all the manly toys that an american "dude" needs to feel fulfilled, a bit like comfort blankets i suppose., but you BLD, what have you got?
So it's a dick measuring contest you want is it dumbass? What have you got? Show me your schlong, you chainsawless shmuck. Where are your witty retorts? Ha ha. That'll.never happen

I had a lovely bacon and egg butty this morning. Three rashers, salted butter oozing through the bread and two eggs cooked omelette style. A bit of tom ketchup to finish it off.

    A banana as well.

Off to the gym and sauna soon and then we'll perhaps pick up some beers for the game later and maybe tag team them with a lamb shawarma.

    We got this, MM!

Dick measuring aside. Very wise to think about your later years as early as possible and sometimes make some pretty difficult decisions. I am sacrificing all of my 40's in Thailand for just that little bit more of a safety net. Hopefully that net will grow from 50 onwards and by the time I get round to snipers alley, I'll have a good war chest to draw from and hopefully will not need to come back to queue at the NHS. Definitely trying to stay more healthy, only 7 units of booze a week, 5 a day and 2500calories of exercise a week and stop vaping or smoking weed. Also, my daughter can now go to university in London which is a no brainer compared to going to uni in LOS. So I guess a healthier life shouldn't just mean physical status but also financial and your kids development which in turn, if positive, gives you less stress.

I take my hat of to you BC I think you've got it dialed in. 100% I've also prepaid my funeral.should I pop.my clogs unexpectedly this is what my mum.and dad did also . It wasn't so much about the money but it sure made things less complicated both times..I think my wife would give me a fantastic Buddhist send off in Lao should I die there but pretty sure she would struggle with organising a funeral here in the West. So I won't put her and the kids through that I ve got fuck all relatives and family here except a brother older than me living miles away who might pop HIS clogs before me. Leaving no one to deal with the nitty gritty. It is what it is

I did 120 sit ups yesterday and I had meusli soaked in cow's milk topped with one of those bendy yellow fitness bars that Edmond recommended for breakfast this morning. Oh, I also had some vanilla infused high protein, low fat yogurt (no artificial flavours). Healthy as.

You've done very well BLD. You are a straight shooter and quite open about life's trials and tribulations. Many on this forum have to hide and can't be honest, lie frequently about their life in fear of retaliation.

We know who the phonies are mate. Living in lao for 14 years and having a good job with a good roster enabled me and my family to go have all kinds of adventures which I posted about. Always they were well received and not much bitching. Even posted about my gig at the minesite . As far as I'm.concerned the butthurt some posters have over you, and me just reveals there insecurities. There dumbasses that haven't made it happen by now and are unlikely to do so. At nearly 60 I'm winding down. Still working because I want to ..can pull the super out anytime I want would like to sell the house in vientiane but it's not a good time. Better to keep it rented. . Had a few problems since relocating here. But that seems to be in the rear view mirror. Might even get a quad and a couple of chainsaws. happy days

Tip of the cap back at you. So strange you mention funerals. I already have my life insurance all specified and witnessed for such a circumstance. However, now my wife is over here, we have been discussing her getting some life insurance for this very reason. You can get 100K sterling for about 4quid a month, why the hell wouldn't you.

It can be tough to do anything other/ extra than your job in life. I have done a lot of hiking and road tripping in Thailand & SEA and the 3am/ 4am starts are always tough but I do it because life should be about getting out there are experiencing life outside your comfort zone. It is actually part of he reason I made a website because I want other Thailand expats to experience a different side of Thailand, one that will give them better memories and self worth.

I do not feel it is so much about jealousy of possessions or status, more about that feeling of wasting time and missing out on memories because you couldn't be bothered to work that little bit harder or get up that little bit earlier.

That's a really good deal for complete life cover.

I took some out 15 years ago for the maximum term which was 30 years.
    6 pw with Aviva.

Even though we've divorced the insurance is still valid and I religiously keep paying it every month by direct debit, its a winning lottery ticket

The piece of mind is priceless knowing that the kids won't go short.

BTW we both had to take a medical before the insurance started.
    Shalom
