1st rule: You must talk about Fit Club.
2nd rule: You must talk about Fit Club.
3rd rule: If someone yells "Stop!", goes limp, taps out, the session is over.
4th rule: Everyone invited to get fit.
5th rule: One session at a time.
6th rule: No shirts, no shoes.
7th rule: Fitness sessions will go on as long as they have to.
8th rule: If this is your first session at Fit Club, you have to post about it.

    I'll get us started...

After nearly 2 years of lockdown, I've lost about 10 kilos of muscle from my upper body.
Tbh I don't like the look and preferred my old physique, so I've joined a swanky new gym with all the latest technology and machines as well as the usual free weight etc

Lots of porsches, Teslas etc parked outside yet the average age of the members appears to be about 25.

Today it's an all over body workout followed by a sauna and jacuzzi, shall get on the different muscle groups in the new year with more intensity and detail

So what are you waiting for???

Join me on this epic fitness journey throughout the year.

    Enjoy your endorphins and gains!
    Shalom

    No interest yet?

Thought there might have been a few participants.

Here's some of the new fangled gym equipment I've been blasting this past week.

    12 reps light
    10 reps medium
    6 reps heavy

Although my heavy is a lot less than it was two years ago.

Ordered some of the good stuff as well to give me a boost.

With a relaxing sauna and steam room to finish, sadly the jacuzzi is broken at the moment.

Gonna start doing push and pull days also isolating muscle groups ie: back and triceps/ chest and biceps/shoulders and legs.

C'mon get onit like a car bonnet

I will wait until next month to start my fitness regimen after you lot have given up on your resolutions and gone back to the cheap brandy and late night fry ups. Fewer crowds that way.

I took out a gym membership in August 2019.
Tried for maximum value initially, by attending every day. Too much too soon for this elderly body.
I have since reduced my attendance to 3 x per week, on a maintenance and rehabilitation basis. My initial weight loss has stabilized around 70kg, and I no longer have to deal with regular lengthy injury breaks.

I have also modified my diet. Instead of fish and prune juice, I now eat more of what I like, and pay it forward, as in hard work before the Christmas excess.

Progress is inevitably slower, but I’m much happier with a sensible exercise load and a more responsive, enjoyable diet.

Getting old does not mean enduring higher work loads and long injury breaks! Good luck with your plan Joe.

NB. The rainy season has had a limited impact on swimming and cycling on my days off from gym work.

If you're trying to gain weight (notice I said 'weight', not muscle), stick with the 'gainer' above, but you're spending money on lots of empty carbs you don't need, and, in 5kg powder, you're only getting a total of 1766g of protein, and it's a 'matrix' at that- 'matrix' means a mix of different proteins where they don't give you the breakdown of the proportion of each one, which usually (always, really) means you're getting the highest percentage of the cheaper ones- if I see 'matrix' on a product without a breakdown, it gets an :fu: from me. Spend your money on 5kg of quality whey protein, which will give you ~2x the total protein without all the filler crap and useless calories. If you want something to take at night before bed, look into casein protein, which is digested more slowly (it's actually better than whey, but if you're doing several meals or meal-replacements during the day, it takes too long to clear your stomach- the whey gets digested very quickly).
There he goes. One of God's own prototypes. A high-powered mutant of some kind never even considered for mass production. Too weird to live, and too rare to die.

True, but 'matrix' (or 'blend') is almost always a negative. If you use a pre-workout, so many have a 'power matrix' (or whatever term they use) with an unspecified stim dosage or an 'L-citrulline matrix' with a mix of citrulline malate which you know has to under-dosed or they'd advertise the actual amount... But, yeah, 'anabolic' is a red flag.

You have to read labels with supplements, and learn what does what and which dosages are efficacious- the flashy stuff with poor ingredients is often around the same price as the stuff that actually has what you want.

    Ok I’m in.

I’ve removed the bed from my gym/spare room so now it’s simply my gym.

After a 2 week festive piss up and feast I got myself back on my Wahoo Kickr Bike, loaded up Zwift and threw my fat ass (2.5kg up) straight into a ramp test. Turns out I did pretty good, and the system immediately bumped up my FTP from 170 to 221, as Somtamslap suggested.

I occasionally ('rarely' is more accurate) post on the Movie/TV Download Recommendations thread- I haven't posted anywhere else in quite a while, but this thread caught my eye, and I tossed in my two cents. I'm really picky about my supplements (as picky as one can be with what's available in LOS via Lazada and the like, at any rate- there's a better selection ordering through iHerb, but the shipping cost for the stuff I use, like protein and pre-workouts, often doubles the price), and I'm not a fan of 'gainers' like the one above, though I respect the OP's effort to get himself back into shape.

    Cheers for that info.
That 5kilos for £65 appeared low cost compared to the £30 a kilo for Casein or 100% whey protein.
    It's so flaming expensive.
Sometimes I'll mix up a pre workout shake of a pint of milk with some fruit and a few raw eggs.

The gym malarkey is all about the proper nutrition which is the hard part.
The easy and fun part is the workouts.

ant's right, you don't need it.

Your body can only process so much protein at each meal.

If you're injesting too much protein, it just gets used for energy or goes into the toilet.

Though, it's fun to have supplements, etc. when getting into the fitness mode.

How Much Protein Your Muscles Can Absorb In One Meal

But if your muscles receive more than 35 grams of protein, they have all the building materials they need and the protein goes to other parts of your body—or into the toilet.

In general, Men's Health advocates for eating 30 grams of protein at each meal to help you build muscle and keep you feeling satisfied.

So aim for 30 grams of protein at mealtime to maximize muscle growth.

That's why these body builders have 6 small meals a day I presume.

    6x30grams of protein approx.

I've read that you need to consume 2.5grams of protein per day for every kilo of your weight for maximum effect.

    That's fair bit of eating...

I took a break from forums for a while, and- as sometimes happens when you interrupt a cycle- I didn't participate in them as regularly afterwards. I have kept up with the 'TV/Movie Recommendations' thread, though, and check on it a few times per week as there are many good (and, of course, not so good) suggestions. If I see a fitness thread on the front page, I'll often open it as that's a huge interest and passion of mine (like the 'Pull-ups' thread, which I used as motivation to hit a clean set of 20 for the sole purpose of being able to truthfully post I did it- it had nothing to do with impressing anyone- except myself- but I wanted to do it and it actually pushed me over the top, silly as that might sound).

I'll likely continue my relationship with TD in that manner.
