It's not always entirely about the surgeon. The most advanced techniques are simply not available at most state hospitals.
In the US I will have the infected prosthesis removed and a antibiotic laced temporary one will be installed. I will be in the hospital overnight and then released.
In Thailand the procedure required me to lay in a hospital bed for 4 weeks with no hip joint before getting the new one.

The reason I don't post much anymore is because it is painful for me to sit at a desk using a computer and I really hate using my mobile phone for writing text.

As I mentioned, I stayed in hospital 4 nights. 1 before, 3 after, and walked out with help of walking sticks... Other only visit in hospital - after sale so far - was for removing the stitches...

I think were comparing apples to oranges here. I had an infection that required a revision. You had a hip replacement. I hope you don't ever have to deal with that in Thailand.

I wanted to chime in here. I had a colleague I believe I mentioned in another post that had a massive heartache while here on business. He was admitted to Bumrungrad Hospital. I have to say I was totally impressed with their capabilities and in the end he fully recovered and is back at work in the US. Outside of Bumrungrad I am not sure the over all quality offered in other provinces. In Lampang at the BKK hospital the care is quite good but I do not know anybody who has had major medical surgery.

^Actually, perhaps I mentioned before, beside my prostate surgery 6 years ago, before that I had problems from an event that I did not immediately recognized it could be a concussion. Only after some 3 weeks I observed moving problems of one of my legs, walking like a paralysed. After firstly concentrating on the leg at an orthopedics clinic that however hadn't helped I asked for advice in a neurology clinic (at the next corner in the evening - as it is easy in Thailand). A clever lady doctor who knows her job, asking me to get an immediate CT scan (private, at the next corner in the evening - as it is easy in Thailand) where the concussion was discovered.

Within next hour I was admitted in the state hospital just over the street where around midnight my skull was drilled by 2 holes, pipes in/out were connected. After 4 days I was disconnected from the pipes, allowed to be driven home. The skilled surgeon had disclosed to us that I was lucky to come that day, if one day later the operation would be obviously no longer needed.

And once such a close attention to my head - properly shaven free of charge - another problem was spotted: What's that small pimple on the ear lobe that has been slightly bleeding over last few months? Then it is a skin cancer, please come again within few weeks and we will cut it out. And really, a nice lady doctor, specialist on these things (not only on bra fulfilment and longer nose - as in Thailand is so easy to get) did it for me, it was already quite deeply grown in.

And as it hasn't been enough, the same story happened the other year to tip of my nose where I disregard for few months a slight bleeding after each shower. It resulted in cutting and sewing my nose similarly as the Frankenstein had. And with daily re-dressing by nice nurses it had healed without a visible scar.

^^. I gotta say Klondyke. you seem like a walking accident waiting to happen. To even think you considered an electric sit down scooter deal to get around is like playing Russian roulette but with 5 of the 6 chambers having a bullet...

I suggest a lot of time in your DIY salaa and hiring someone to bring you things. Its far safer and reduces your chances of another trip to the ER

Actually he was returning from dinner in a cab. He was pretty out of shape and ate tons of "Rich" food. I remember when I mentioned it on TD when it happened. Guy was a workaholic, ate bad. Didn't drink or smoke though. No Noi or Lek which in a way is sort of sad...

Just me being asinine. Your post says "heartache" instead of "heart attack".

^Thanks for the flowers... In fact, I hardly can plan something like this, all it depends on ability/adaptability of my organism that has to withstand my actions...

I was lucky... (and still am, so far)... Not so somebody in Austria:

    SERIOUS TREATMENT FAILURE
The 82-year-old's wrong leg was amputated at the Klinikum Freistadt

    May 20, 2021,

    The patient lost both legs.

Linz - An 82-year-old patient's wrong leg was amputated at the Freistadt Clinic. The Upper Austrian Health Holding and the medical director of the hospital, Norbert Fritsch, informed about this on Thursday afternoon in a press conference called at short notice. One was "deeply affected", it said from the clinic, the mistake happened due to human error. The attending doctor is currently not on duty at her own request.

    Wrong leg marked

Both legs of the 82-year-old were impaired due to previous illnesses. A thigh amputation was necessary on the left leg. Before the operation on Tuesday, however, the wrong leg was marked, the hospital explains the "tragic treatment error". On Thursday, the fatal mix-up was discovered when changing dressings.

The patient's second leg must now also be amputated from the middle of the thigh. The operation should be carried out promptly. The 82-year-old and his relatives were offered psychological help.

The health holding assured that comprehensive and "transparent" information would be provided. "All internal processes are to be checked and questioned". In addition, a statement of the facts will be sent to the public prosecutor's office. (APA, May 20, 2021)

Best in Isaan. I had eye surgery there. Missus had broken wrist reconstucted.
Far better than any hospitals in Roi Et or ajoining provinces.

After suffering for 7 years from a serious infection from hip replacement surgery at Lad Prao General Hospital I am finally on the mend after surgery in Seattle, WA. I have decided to move back to the US permanently because the Thai government has placed too many obstacles up for those wishing to return from abroad.

Me too. While in the hospital for six weeks recovering from surgery my Thai wife decided to find a new farang boyfriend. So I dumped her and am living alone near my son in midtown Atlanta, which is a really nice place.
