    Thanks to all wishing me.

Adding what I already once mentioned about my ingenious cane (patent pending) - also DIY.

The very important trick avoiding a hassle, everybody experiencing when put the cane away, always dropping down with a big bang.

The rubber block, enhanced on it's bottom by a glue pad that is just slightly sticking, thus helping that the cane doesn't drop.
The Glue Pad - as it is named - I incidentally discovered in a stationary shop - has its both side sticking. And I glued the tape by a hot glue to the rubber block, because sometimes sticking too much to the table and not to the rubber.

The thin black string is flexible and can be put over the hand for having the hand(s) free (e.g. for opening the door).

The cane is exceptionally not by acacia but by golden teak.

However, the top around the sink is acacia (DIY)...

Another use of the cane when needing to catch the dog, in this case to bring him to the washing point...

Thanks for a great thread. Keep us informed of your progress.

Was the hospital your local provincial hospital or did you travel to a regional specialist?

Photos look very much like Lampang Central Hospital, but I suppose all government hospitals might have similar decoration.

Klondykes local hospital looks a lot better than those meant for the peasants elsewhere. In PhiChit Hospital or Phitsanulok (Buddhachinaraj Phitsanulok Hospital) conditions not as nice. But looks can be deceiving. I had an operation in Buddhachinaraj Phitsanulok Hospital and lived...with no complications.

One of the problems I find with a keyboard. I tend to make mistakes I would not normally make when writing by hand. I'm sometimes too lazy and at other times I just dont give a flying fook to edit, especially with capital letters.

I have tested unbalancing of the legs, therefore added 1 cm to the left shoe of the pair on the right. Feeling now that it seems too much.

So before balancing with the future right leg hip replacement, I better will add another 1 cm to the shoe for the right leg - so easy in Thailand on every corner - staying with the 1 cm unbalance...

Skip all that Klondyke and just have a few drinks. You will walk without any notice on a balance issue.

You're telling a Russian to 'just have a few drinks'?

When is the other hip scheduled for, tovarish? That scar looks severe, is it causing you pain or discomfort still?

Nice relaxing view there Klondyke. You should look into a solar powered fan.

My view this morning after my bike ride and some property clean up was this

And YES that is a well stocked D.I.Y pool bar across the way.

I brought my lappy down and took care of some work emails because Japan, Czech republic and the US are not on holiday but I can't think of a better way to work.

My Lab Pup has taken a real liking to belly flopping in the pool. Quite relaxing watching her launch after her training ball while I update TD.

    Get well soon.

The last 9 years have been a living nightmare for me due to massive problems stemming from a hip replacement at Lad Prao hospital in Bangkok. I have been plagued by constant terrible pain for all that time. Doctors at Lad Prao insisted that I had no serious problems only muscle weakness. This year everything came to a head with an abscess on my hip which was operated on two times without a positive result. The abscess has morphed into a sinus that discharges fluid and pus daily. The doctors at the hospital in Surin, where I now live, washed their hands of the problem and suggested that I go to the USA for surgery. I am now in Seattle and I have been diagnosed with osteo myelitis of the femur. Next Monday I will have the first of two surgeries to remove the infected hip and replacement with a new prosthesis. I am being operated on at the University of Washington by the professor of orthopedic surgery. I have total confidence in his and his team’s ability. However, a positive outcome is not certain because this type of infection is extremely difficult to treat.
This whole thing began with an infection that I got from my first surgery at Lad Prao General. I would strongly advise against anyone contemplating major orthopedic surgery at Lad Prao.

I hope and wish you that you will be well helped by the new surgery in US. However, your advice should not be given with a general meaning. In every medical treatment there is always certain percentage of some kind of a failure, sometimes more or sometimes less serious, caused by various unknown reasons. And not always caused by the mistreatment of the hospital.

My surgeon (who I - BTW - had heard only the best of) had mentioned to me that the surgery cannot always guarantee a 100% success, especially at older persons. Beside, I was warned by somebody here similarly like your advice. However, either I have been lucky enough, or all was made in the most professional manner in the provincial state hospital.

Now, I have been 2.5 months after the surgery, feeling quite good, almost without any sign of a problem, of course not being able to run same as before. But being confident that it will be even better after more time healing. Cannot think how I would still be suffering if I did not make the right decision...

^ I understand you opinion but I was monitored for 5 years after revision surgery at Lad Prao for loosening and infection and my doctor told me there was no problem. He was clearly incorrect in his assessment. Sorry, but I have come to the conclusion that the orthopedic staff at Lad Prao is incompetent. That is not an indictment of all Thai hospitals or doctors. I do know though that the general level of orthopedic surgery techniques in Thailand state hospitals is decades behind the care given in the USA.

^Actually, my surgeon had been practising in US hospitals for few years.

Is the Lad Prao hospital run by state or a private one? As I heard, the private hospitals are not always equipped by the best professionals, whether because of lower salaries to younger doctors?

In fact, I was few times treated by a private (provincial) hospital and it was OK, especially my very acute appendix surgery 5 min. before midnight 25 years ago...

Best of luck there, Humbert, we've missed you around these parts!

Enjoy some Dungeness crab while your there, I'm sure it'll take your mind off the pain for a bit.

Out of curiosity, why didn't you go to one of the better Thai hospitals in Bangkok? Surely you can get the same level of care in one of the upper end Thai hospitals that you're currenting getting.

Because I was working in Thailand and my insurance was on the state run system. Bumrungrad and the other better private hospitals are not on the list.
