Not really. Almost all Thais, wherever they're from, eat a very balanced diet.

There may be differences, but they aren't that big as to say it's nothing like.

Other than fruit Ed hit the nail on the head..

Dont totally agree Hal, the Isaan diet is lacking at times. The poorer you are the less similarity to other Thai diets. They simply eat what they have and is nutritious. I will always reference ant eggs as protein..

Luigi knows the drill. Pla ra, raw veggies and som tam.

Who could not know this if you have ever lived in Thailand and shared an office with Thais?

Plus, there will ALWAYS and I mean ALWAYS be fresh fruit passed around the office.

In reply, my comment, the OP, which the Mods decided to make this new thread from, is mostly referring to Kids.

I've never seen my 6yo Boys eat "Pla ra, raw veggies and som tam."

Now you've pointed this out, I quite envy their lack of exposure to somtam pla ra, durian and famous 1970s West Brom footballers.

    With all due respect, mate.

I've never known a Thai not to eat pla ra, raw veggies and som tam.

And I lived quite a varied life in Thailand, to say the least, from north to south. All of the lads and girls would merrily get stuck into each other's food with gusto (even the Muslims) no matter their age!

But dont they devour fruit? Its the one thing my kids really miss in the states. Thai fruit.. Even with all the western fruit they miss Thai mangoes, chompoo, rambutan, durian, mangosteen, and more.

Most of them probably did miss out on that 5-3 at Old Trafford though.

I was born the year before and me old man was in the Stretford End that day while it has obviously been passed down the line over time (my dad has seen us everywhere - including 68 against Benfica -and speaks of that Baggies team highly).

Admittedly, I watch it on Youtube from time to time. It's part of our history to get taught a lesson by another better team.

    We learn from that.

Who was the lad that played for WBA who was from Manchester? Was it Alli Brown?

I've no idea, sorry. Ally Brown is a Scot.

Tony Brown was born in Oldham.

Ray, what do your kids eat?

Do they prefer Pla ra, raw veggies or som tam as their favourite?
