The costs of testing for COVID-19 infection

According to information obtained by Thai PBS, the charges made for an individual to be tested for COVID-19 infection vary from hospital to hospital.

    Hospital Price (Baht)

    Siriraj Piya Maharajkaroon 9,900

    Rama IX 8,000-10,000

    Bumrungrad 8,000-14,000

    Vichaiyudh 7,500

    Rangsit 7,000

    Bangkok Christian 5,000-10,000

    Phya Thai 2 6,500

    Paolo 5,000-13,000

    Ramathibodi 5,000

    Chulalongkorn 3,000-6,000

    Rajavithi 3,000-6,000

Those who qualify as high-risk and have been in close contact with high-risk people, or who have just returned from high-risk countries and who have developed symptoms, such as a fever, a cough and runny nose, will not be charged if they report to state hospitals.

It also depends whether the hospitals are ready to conduct the tests. If not, the individual may be transferred to one of seven hospitals which are better equipped.

The seven hospitals and institutes which are capable of conducting the tests are:

Medical Science Faculty of Siriraj hospital
Medical Science Faculty of Chulalongkorn University
Medical Science Faculty of Prince of Songkhla University
    Rajavithi Hospital
    Bumrungrad Hospital
    Bamrasnaradura Institute of Infectious Diseases

this is example #3,397 how hypercapitalism corrupted healthcare.

people aren't going to go to the doctor because they can't afford the tests, and the positive will end up infecting others.

Virus covered by universal health care

Coronavirus will be officially covered under the universal healthcare programme while authorities are rushing to ease protective mask shortages as Thailand takes action to contain a possible spread of the disease.

Public Health Minister Anutin Charnvirakul said the board of the National Health Security Office (NHSO) approved the inclusion on Monday.

A 3.5-billion-baht budget will be sought from the contingency budget for treatment in the remaining seven months of fiscal 2020 ending in October, he said.

A surplus of the fund may also be tapped for the purpose, but not more than 1 billion baht.

The coverage includes all costs — from prevention, health promotion, diagnosis and treatment to rehabilitation — for 48.3 million members of the programme, also known as the gold card.

^ Worse than that, there are 11 hospitals that will charge to carry out the test but only 7 that are able to conduct the test...

Not the best way to carry out containment...TiT
