    Meat isn't good for you
Eating red meat and processed meat hikes heart disease, death risk

    NORTHWESTERN UNIVERSITY

Eating red meat, processed meat or poultry raises risk of cardiovascular disease

Eating meat - but not poultry- raises risk of dying from all causes

New findings contradict a recent controversial study saying people don't need to reduce their consumption of red meat and processed meat

CHICAGO --- Drop the steak knife. After a controversial study last fall recommending that it was not necessary for people to change their diet in terms of red meat and processed meat, a large, carefully analyzed new study links red and processed meat consumption with slightly higher risk of heart disease and death, according to a new study from Northwestern Medicine and Cornell University.

Eating two servings of red meat, processed meat or poultry -- but not fish -- per week was linked to a 3 to 7% higher risk of cardiovascular disease, the study found. Eating two servings of red meat or processed meat -- but not poultry or fish -- per week was associated with a 3% higher risk of all causes of death.

"It's a small difference, but it's worth trying to reduce red meat and processed meat like pepperoni, bologna and deli meats," said senior study author Norrina Allen, associate professor of preventive medicine at Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine. "Red meat consumption also is consistently linked to other health problems like cancer."

"Modifying intake of these animal protein foods may be an important strategy to help reduce the risk of cardiovascular disease and premature death at a population level," said lead study author Victor Zhong, assistant professor of nutritional sciences at Cornell, who did the research when he was a postdoctoral fellow in Allen's lab.

That works for me because I don't particularly like them. Even on pizza.

    100% absolutely worth it.

Plus these studies need to differentiate between the red meat eaters that get their serves from Maccas along with fries and a coke, and normal people who have a steak with a salad.

I am of the opinion that humans eating meat for protein allowed our jawbones to get smaller which allowed our braincases to get larger which ironically allowed us to decide that eating meat is bad

They have been spewing this crap forever. First was do not eat butter. It will plug your arteries so they come up with some nasty ass margarine spread shit made out of chemicals that was worse then real 100% butter. Then it was do not eat eggs. They will kill you due to high cholesterol. Now full circle and we are back to beef. I love me a big fat Ribeye, NY Strip loin or a big end cut prime rib and if I die because of it, so be it. Its going to be a tough one to identify when they cut me open. Probably look at my liver and call it.

    Everything in moderation.

I don't mind people eating meat - if the animals are treated well.
Unfortunately the only bit of fun most of our farmyard freinds enjoy is getting firmly stuck in your teeth.
    Newsflash:
Another flu epidemic has emerged in China, early indications suggest it crossed species from a huge tofu farm...

    Indeed. Goes without saying.
More importantly might be to examine the true quality of food [generally speaking] taken - usually not recognized by the phony baloney researchers/surveyors, lest the unaware and disconnected masses.

It wont be what kills me.

I've just finished a beef tenderloin steak. 'Twas nice, and full of goodness.

AO - ya gotta eat more. 24 oz of prime rib is only about 1,800 calories.

In moderation, absolutely. A big steak a week won't hurt for sure. But we don't need a lot of meat for health reasons.

    More media hyped codswallop...

Never a wins with a good steak, half the fat is unsaturated and much better for you than fruit juice and over sweetened yoghurt.

I'ts the planet that eating meat is not good for when you consider the methane and length of time it takes to raise and feed your meat until it gets to market.

We should all be eating high protein insects instead, like Jeff.

I eat Japanese style. Very little red meat - lots of fish and vegetables. I dont have anything against eating lots of red meat, but find my body functions better eating mostly fish, sometimes chicken, now and then some pork, and very rarely beef. I havent eaten beef for months now, and to be honest, I am beginning to find it sickening. What used to look like a tasty steak, looks more and more like dead, burnt cow.

Theres a lot more protein in steak although you are better off with a boring lean chicken breast or a protein shake.
