Terry I went thru what you're looking at now some time ago, by that I mean wanting to make sure Mrs Worx had top health cover recognized by the best hospitals for in and out patient. I was working away a lot back then and it gave huge peace of mind knowing if the shit hit the fan health wise, she was well covered.

So what I did and you should too, is find a reputable insurance agent to discuss this with. We have such a guy in Pattaya that most long term expats use for all their insurance needs, a high profile Englishman who's company has been around forever (at least 20 years that I know of) and he's a straight shooter. There must be such a person/company in Bangkok, there'd be several, and you should ask around the Expat community to find out who they are.

After a meeting with him outlining the desired coverage, he presented 3 options from 3 different insurance companies and ultimately we went with Pacific Cross. The main reasons for this are they were his top recommendation, and I've been with them since the 80's with no complaints over their handling of the few times I've had to pull the card out while checking into a hospital. In fact, they've been fantastic.

How much this will cost will depend on many things which should be explained to you in detail by your broker (age, pre-existing conditions, past illnesses, exclusions, level of cover, etc) but to give you some idea Mrs Worx's policy costs about 37k Baht per year. That's top-tier level that would cover pretty much anything with in and out patient included.

The peace of mind that comes with this is well worth the ticket price. The Mrs is in excellent heath but you know anything can and will go wrong, plus Thailand is such a dangerous place on the roads (she has a car and a motorbike) so if she's in an accident the card in her purse will ensure she's taken to and treated at the best hospitals in the area.

If you torture data for enough time , you can get it to say what you want.

fucking brilliant bit of advise. I'm in similar situation as terry looking for some good health care for the whole family, I took it for granted when on the expat package, now I'm not, need to get it sorted I reckon, slightly of topic the company I worked for ( Chinese) said they would pay the bill if I wanted to get a vasectomany, they already paid for the 2 births of my sons via Caesarian ( thanks doc) those fuckers knew I was a sexy man and tried to nip it in the bud, I got the last laugh I reckon

    Yes,

Well its easier said than done trying to sort out these Issues in Thailand especially when one don't speak the lingo.

Through in that they have all different levels of protection it's not an easy call.

Never know with this stuff until one needs to actually claim.

    Yes that's right;

But I can't actually see myself bunging her down the Public Hospital.

    That won't happen.

Way it is for most Expats who can afford to go private.

If I was up in Nakon Nowhere living on a Pension I would have no choice.

    Na,

The comfort of being a private patient when one is really sick far outweighs lining up in a public hospital with 6 million other punters.

I'm not worried about the small stuff, I'll just pay cash, it's all about the big issues that will suck through the big dollars.

Yes, that sounds particularly good at a very reasonable price, don't want top of the range insurance but middle road is OK.

    I'll check it out.

Also worth checking if she is the policy holder, would they insure you on the same policy ? The extra cost may be negligible ...

I tried to send you a PM but it says your message storage is full. ?

As for government hospitals, there are some excellent services provided free for Thai customers.
A Kiwi mate had to have an emergency op and his health insurance paid in full. He declined a private room based on his cover because it was a mainland hospital and he did not get many visitors. He was happy with a bed in the corridor and kindly Thai families who did his shopping and laundry for him while he was an in patient.

    Yes,

My In box has been blasted into orbit by the Nasty Mods.

All good though no problems, what ever.

I'm well insured up so no problems there.

What I am trying to achieve is to protect myself from some very nasty Hospital fees if she gets some serious fookin illness.

Hence I'm scrambling for a semi decent Insurance policy to cover her.

I'll walk down to AIA head office tomorrow and see if any one speaks decent English.

Yes I know that Chas but Chances being she will end up in Private and I'll be paying.

So I'm covering my arse by getting her Insured.

    ^No, it's JL.

I see Terry is going to wander into an AIA office to see if someone speaks English. Of the many ways to get screwed over when shopping for local health insurance, this would be an ideal first step.

The insurance ended up being too expensive as it had to cover the handbag for mental torture.

I have looked up AiA online, and they are not cheap ! £3574 annual, or am I just a cheapo ? also some unhappy customers with AiA !!

Pacific Cross, Pacific Prime cost more.

Here in the UK I have been with the same surgery 50+years now, needed them about 4-5 times only.
I know that that can all change in a heart beat now that I have reached old geezers status. Just trying to do the sensible thing before I go and stay.

Too old to Rock 'N' Roll :

    Too young to Die !
