Thanks for all the info. I had to look this one up! All this time I thought it was something afflicting SE Asian girls.Tinnitus
Syringing is perfectly safe and painless although you need to sit down for at least a few minutes afterwards to regain your balance.Originally Posted by Dillinger
For most this is correct but exposure to certain elements and noise will see far more wax production.Originally Posted by Dillinger
I had a very bad left ear infection when I was young and the doctor explained I have a narrowing that blocks the wax in that ear. My right ear is OK but I do have it cleaned of wax as well when I have a syringing. In fact I am due for another treatment as I type and I can hear the ringing.
Hadn't even thought of my tinnitus in months until I read this thread! Now I hear that high pitched ring again. It's more noticeable when I am indoors with a/c or fans going. Outside not so much. I also have a cricket-like chirping in my left hear.
Never had my ears examined by a MD. That's a good idea.

^Or a psychiatrist? Jesus, whats next? Stool shapes? Don't tell ENT about this condition or else he'll either explain it as Galactic communications or CIA brain scans...

Bit of an update. Went to see the Doc, and he checked me out, found no ear infection, wax build-up, etc.
This is the same bloke that checked a sinus infection last year, and so advised me to continue "irrigating" my sinuses with saline solution (use a big hypo syringe to squirt salt water up my nostrils, basically). Anyway, tried this for a couple of days now and actually seems to have mitigated the level of noise in my ears, but still have a faint 'buzzing' still there.
I will continue with the sinus flushing and see if symptoms continue to abate..
The Doc also asked about my dental health, says that sometimes problems with wisdom teeth can contribute to tinnitus, due to the nerves being very close to the ear. Might be an idea to get my remaining wisdom teeth removed also.
Anyone else experienced this?
The sinus flushing makes sense.
The wisdom teeth kind of makes sense, but personally I don't think I'd go as far as having the remaining ones pulled unless there was a dental reason to do so or as a last resort if your ear noise level becomes intolerable.
This thread, by the way, has aggravated mine. Or I'm thinking about it.
^Use a bulb and warm water with some salt diluted in it...suction some water into the bulb, lay your head back and squeeze the bulb and water is injected into the nostril flushing whatever is in the path...do as much as needed to clear blockage...sometimes it works in one app and then there's the one that never clears as is my current case....in my right nostril...I think I've got a big bug up it...
Who needs a bulb or syringe ? When I have a cold and my nose is clogged with mucus, for donkeys years I've been cleaning my nose out by snorting up salty water. It's a yoga exercise.
Use slightly warm water. Put in a little salt and then taste it to see how salty it is....try to get it a little less salty than sea water....though tolerance for saltiness in your nasal passages will vary from person to person.
Pour some water into your cupped hand, close off one nostril and and snort it up into the other. Close off nostril with finger and leave in there for a little while. Perhaps tilt back your head.
Do other side, then if not better, repeat 5 minutes later.
Me too, and I too have tinnitus - more in the right ear than the left. I live with it. About two years ago I got a fluid build up in my left middle ear as well - not painful, no infection, sinuses fine. A slight muffled effect, but not a drastic loss of hearing. Short of having a grommet put in the ear drum, and draining it - nowt can be done. I'm learning to live with it ...I used to box when I was younger and also worked in noisy environments for many years
What do people do if they're particularly light sleepers ???
