Two weeks into my new year resolutions and so far so good.

Gym with whey protein shake 5 days a week for one hour.

    Booze only at the weekends.

    Stronger and sleeping better

Have quit the booze for 3 months so far and so good. Mai pen rai

Workouts consist of alternating days lifting weights, which means 1 day for legs only, 1 day for chest and shoulders (today) and 1 day for arms and back. In between the lifting days I go for a 10k run in an hour on a treadmill. The day after a leg weight lifting session is probably the hardest run but it also helps relieve the leg soreness. A pre-workout meal on a running day is usually skipped because I like running on an empty stomach. Also, unbelievably, if I have a really strong craving to eat to where I'm really looking forward to the meal after the run, by the end of the run I don't feel like eating at all.

On the other hand pre-workout meals are essential on lifting days or I will have enough energy to walk to gym and, once inside, turn around and walk home. The meal itself can be a whey protein shake (only 140 calories) or 4 whole eggs, some chopped melon or apples. If I only have the shake, I make sure I'm at the gym between an hour and a half to 2 hours or I'll start losing the energy it provides. After a "real food" pre-workout meal I'll wait 3 or 4 hours before hitting the gym. A meal before a workout is often really hard to figure out because usually when I sit down to eat, I want to feel full before I get up, which is a terrible recipe for a pre-workout meal.

So, I'd really appreciate reading some posts about what other weightlifters eat before a workout and how long you wait before you hit the gym.

Cheers and here's hoping your New Year's resolutions re: nutrition and exercise bear fruit.

^ Do you blend those ingredients in your pre-workout lunch into a shake? How long do you wait after lunch before hitting the gym?

Took it extra steady after observing a lake freeze over as I rode past the fucker. Arrived home after dark so it was little dicey for the last 10 miles. Crucially though, I earned my beer and kebab combo this evening.

Looks horrifically exposed. I'll stick with the lanes around the home counties for the time being because the wind up there would probably make me swear myself into unconsciousness.

Probably stay off the road until this horrible weather buggers off. In the meantime I'll get the cross bike out and plot a 20 mile loop around the woods. I have two big events planned for this year. Late March: The Ghent-Wevelgem Spring Classic - 136 miles of traversing both bergs and flatlands while getting whipped by wind and rain, as is customary in north Belgium in March/April. Need to train hard for that.

And a solo jaunt from Bilbao to Basingstoke in June/July.

If you torture data for enough time , you can get it to say what you want.

No need for details as they are in my thread on exercise.

Power walking burns as many calories as jogging, but only if you'd walk twice as far as what you'd normally jog. I don't jog at all, but do a 5 mile power walk every other day. I wear a heavy rucksack to strengthen my back/shoulder/lower neck muscles and I'm losing the softness around my middle at a good rate.

Six pack's alway been there and it's starting to show again.

Many make the mistake of doing lots of sit ups and think that is what loses the weight. Combine with a diet it's a good way. I only do sit ups/push ups in sets of ten. You shouldn't do them until you're arms give out because you're only putting too much strain on them.

Five sets of ten of each a day, 10x3min rounds with a minutes break, on the punchbag, mainly just punching, as I do practise the kicks afterwards.
I don't go mad and whack it as hard possible.

I find that my mood is a lot better as well, cut well down on smoking, eating low carbs/higher protein, lots of fruit & veg. There are natrual carbs in most veg anyway.

By the time I hit the beach in a months time I'll be looking good, man.

The heaviest things I could find that fit are two Cd folders and two cushions to pad it out, doesn't have to be too heavy.
If possible wear a sports shirt as it will natrually cool you when you sweat, whereas a regular t shirt would be soaked.

Some stretching when I get back, touching toes, stretching calves and thighs. Like I say, you don't need to exercise until you drop, as you don't get any more fitter.

When I was doing the muay Thai, I was able to do pull ups 20 at a time. Doing that now fills me with horror.

Half a cup of vinegar a day stimulates fat loss, two glasses of water first thing in the morning also kick starts the metabolism. Several small meals a day keeps it moving. Snacking on fruit is great for that as well.

Many Thais eat several small meals a day, hence their slimline figures, so there is some truth to that.

Yes, it dropped to -7.5 here last night and didn't warm up a great deal during the day. I've had three days off the bicycle but intend to ride from dawn to dusk tomorrow - just for shits n' gigs you understand.
But, yep, as Pat mentions up there - regular exercise alters your mood for better , and try as you might you can't drink, smoke and masturbate whilst in the saddle.

The trick is to burn more calories than you eat in a day.

Small teacup, it tastes rancid and I always brush my teeth after.
It's a well known tip I read several times while trawling exercise tips and losing weight

In the boxing gyms there were many who had to make weight fast, and they must have suffered with their high protein, NO carbs diet. Puts one in a foul mood

I've had a dry year too so far, I've told myself no booze until I set foot on that beach on Koh Bulon Leh on Feb 27th
But even then the vibes there might be so easy going that I may stay sober. It would be my first ever sober holiday if I do, as there's only one small pub on the island
