Gotta team run in the evening, so smashed out abs, chest, delts and triceps early in the morn.

With a full weekly schedule of cycling/training, you gotta get a good warm oil kneading every now'n'again.

Ze ol' undercarriage ain't gonna knead itself with warm oil.

The most important thing to remember is quality control.

You gotta get the quality control spot on to reap the full health benefits.

    Top work Somchai.

Edith put down the badminton racket and jumped in.

Which is the reason why the pace is really really slow.

12 metres, so I swim 504m a day... just over half a kilometre. This is why I do 42 lengths as it seems a nice round distance every day.

Easy bump to 50 laps (100 lengths) which will get you to 1.2km.

The pool in Saudi I used was a kind of odd 33 metres long. I did 32 laps (64 lengths) for a distance of 2.112km. I was in the pool at 04:00 I'd finish up at about a quarter to five. It was kind of tough at first, but after a couple of months it got easier.

^ The 42 lengths take me around 15 minutes and I usually start around 6am. I think first I'll up this to 84 lengths to make it a round kilometre... I can spare 30 minutes in the mornings but not much more.

I have been feeling the mental benefits of an early morning swim but have yet to notice any appreciable weight loss. The problem I have, the same with using gym equipment, is boredom. History has shown that if I start trying to do too much I'll end up getting pissed off with it and stop altogether. I want to keep this sustainable.

^ Sinking bottles of beer and yaa dong every evening after a dustbin lid sized plate of stodge doesn't really help.

Reduce portion size by 30%, cutout the midweek alcohol, and bump the swimming up to 1km.

    To make it more sustainable, increase the number of lengths gradually. For example 42, 46, 50, 55, 60, 65, 70, 75, 80, 84.

Let your body and mind get used to the increased distance before increasing again.

This was the main benefit for me. It was very much like yoga with the mindful breathing and stretching. Also, swimming is far less stressful on the joints. Getting somewhat of a swimmer's body after persisting with it for several years was a side bonus.

Unfortunately on September 1st 2019 the rec centre on my compound was destroyed by fire. The adjacent pool was drained and abandoned. That really wrecked my morning routine. After a month's sloth of staying in bed until five I got my carcass out of bed at 03.45 and started pounding the pavement inside the compound every morning for four loops inside the walls getting in about 4.8km. I developed a liking for that, but overall I much preferred swimming.

    Here ya go...

Have you factored into your distances the kicking off from the sides as that with your size swimming pool could actually bring your total distance swam by 2/3rds.

Agreed, swimming is much more beneficial and has less of an impact on ones body.
Still any exercise is better than none, well done for getting some running in.

We miss swimming. Pre covid we went a few times a week, really should get back into that routine.

I did 50 today, so 600 metres. I'll stay with this for a week or so before increasing again.

To be honest if it wasn't for the time constraints in the morning I reckon I could just go on indefinitely, a bit like Forrest Gump.

Once I'm into the routine of the lengths I like to plan out the day ahead. It's one time when I can't be disturbed.

I've yet to see this 'swimmer's body' but I guess it's only time.

Two problems I can foresee... one is just keeping count of the lengths while I'm 'thinking' about other stuff. The other is water temperature. It's already down to 26 degrees which is quite bracing to jump in to, but OK once I get going. I think it'll go down to 22 or 23 this winter which could be a challenge.

We've got a big pool here, but I find doing laps really boring. My solution to keeping count of laps was....

Using two stones at one end, and each time I get there (every 2 laps) I would move one of the stones around as if hands on a clock. First time, the 2 position, next time 4 position, next time 6 position, at 12, move the second stone to 1 o'clock.

If doing 48 laps you finish when the stones show 4 o'clock.

^^ It's a good plan but if I leave stones at the end of the pool, one of the dogs will pick them up for sure.

I've thought about leaving a stick of chalk at one end and tallying off every 10 lengths but I know that Maya will run off with the chalk.

Is that not a dog fence with gate around the pool?

Or is it there to keep ootai out?

    Shrimpy leafy eggs.

    5km warmup.

Smash abs, biceps, traps n lats in the gym.

Waxy mama with diced chicken breast, leaves n runny poached egg.

Chill. Shower. 4 hands warm oil massage to knead me knots.

Gotta start focusing more on the jogging with a half marathon in Singapore next year.

You are completely correct of course.

I know this may sound like I'm making endless excuses, but part of the morning routine is for the six dogs to sit around the pool and watch me swim... they seem to enjoy it... or maybe they're just bemused and are taking the piss? Either way, it reduces my boredom because I talk to them during breaths as I swim up and down.

As for Ootai... it's supposed to be a child-proof gate but I reckon he could open it, if pushed.

I must admit I'd be intrigued if anyone has a fool-proof method of counting lengths while swimming... I can't be the first person with this problem?
