    dumb lying doctors

A couple of hours ago my wife called me.
    She's had an accident.
Hit a dog just round the corner from me.
In a lot of pain, but a lot more shock, she's been driving since she was 12 and had never put a bike down before (she's 30).

anyway i took her down to the Ram 2 hospital's emergency room.
Lots of scratches but I was sure there was no break.
She could move her fingers and stuff.

She was x rayed and I was waiting to take her home when the doctor came out and told her it was broken.
I didn';t argue, she got put in a sling and was told not to use her arm for a couple of weeks.
I still didn't believe it was broken and asked to see the xray.
"I was parried to another chair.

After asking for the xrays again, I was told to sit down and they would be coming soon.

The bill came and I paid.
I asked for the xrays again.

I was told they would be coming soon.

A nurse then came and told me I could have them tomorrow so i went back to the emergency room and eventually a doctor arrived.
Of course I'm no doctor but the x ray looked like a normal arm so I asked the doctor to tell me what the problem was.

    He hadn't a clue.

the bit here is not normal he said.
    "which bit?"

    the bit there.

    "I can't see anything."

    yes it's not normal.

    "so is it broken?"
    yes.

    "where?"

    no, not broken.

    and so on.

They were very reluctant to part with the x rays and my wife tells me that my asking for them caused a bit of a fooofah amongst the nurses.
I told them that I had paid for the xray and wasn't going anywhere until I was furnished with them.

Her arm most probably isn't broken and she should probably have been given a few pain kilers and told to rest.
Instead she has her arm in a cast that in all likelihood is unnecessary and a bag full of medicine that we can barely understand the instructions for.

I have the pics, do we have any doctors here?

I was a gynecologist in one of my past lives and your diagnoses seems correct.

Get a second opinion , xrays go through casts and have the damm thing sawed off if needed.

Then go back to the 1st rip off hospital and "ask" for a refund so you will not have to forward the story to the Bkk Post's opinions section.

it's a bit dissapointing to say the least though isn't it?

teling you that you are fukked and putting your arm in a cast and charging you for the process when there is fukk all realy wrong.
I have always used this hospital and had always felt better after the saline drip.
what should I do with my evidence?

Sorry to hear about your missus CMn.

    Do u have insurance?

Take her to a private clinic.Pref to a bloke that does not practise part time at RAM.Or maybe Suan Dok?

Or,I know a ortho Dr that you could see.Get him to re xray the arm (Without mentioning that you have already been to RAM.Then get his opinion.)

Ram are getting many bad raps lately.

Yep nooners, but the bloke I know also does his operations out of Ram.He is like a God there though. He was educated in the USA and has also done work on the Royal Family (I think, well he has a picture on his wall withh the King anyway!!)

He is quite a straight talking dude too.He made a mistake on a mate of mine and admitted he was at fault. He redid the op at no cost.He wasn't asked to do this, but volunteered.......Good bloke too.

Not a doc and squeamish to boot, but if her arm was broken or fractured or even hairlined I can guarantee she wouldn't be able to move it around without severe pain.

If it came out of your pocket, opt for a refund with a quiet word in some ear, and be prepared to take it to the next stage.

    Couple of oberservations:

If you paid for the xrays they belong to you.

If that's the only hospital within striking distance, expect payback the next time you need their services.

    that's what I thought.
I'll upload the xray pics later if I can get a decent shot of them.

I'm not sure how I feel about her getting back on one in the future.
Might have to buy her a little car.

Glad to hear the Mrs is OK. I used to use Ram2 but they've gone way downhill recently. Somebody (a nurse who works there) told me that they're no longer part of the CM-Ram group but have been bought up by a new company and that all the staff are now under heavy pressure to produce profits. My insurance is for Suan Dok and they're OK if a bit brusque. In an emergency I use Lanna Hospital, looks a bit grim but my kid was born there and the staff were fantastic (even let me stay in the Op. theatre during the Caesarian). Most of the doctors there are pretty straightforward and have no problems answering nosy farangs who ask lots and lots of questions.

Actually that's not true. You don't have to have great pain for it to be fractured. A sprain is intially more painful than an uncomplicated fracture and it is sometimes impossible for a lay person to see things on an xray even when pointed out.

Why did they xray her arm if she had no pain or swelling?

    I didn't say she wasn't in pain.
she was in a lot of pain, the sort you'd expect when a bike falls on your arm.
She could move her fingers relatively freely and there was little or no swelling.
Anyway, went back this morning for a check up and another doctor confirmed that there was no break. Not to me, to my wife.
I wasn't allowed to go in because my wife gets mortified with embarrasment at my behaviour.
I sat outside and had a cup of tea.

So, did they take the cast off?

Being able to move your fingers or your wrist is also not an indication that there is no fracture.

They have removed the cast and given her a splint type thing and a sling.
told her to wear it for a week.
    a definite improvement.
