I went from 99k to 87k in 6 month, not bread, beer, potatoes, rice ,crisps ,biscuit or any processed food.Changed my diet to just fresh veg,Salads, lean meat, fish, fruit and 2.5 litres of water a day....along with daily 20k bike rides or long walks. The only way to lose weight and the beer gut is to burn more calories than you eat.

A beer gut, is not simply an enlarged stomach that you can fill up with beer. If it was, your stomach would deflate whenever you were on empty. It is comprised of yellow fat, which is the worst kind of fat from a health standpoint.

Beer contains a lot of calories and if you drink a lot of beer you are adding a lot of calories. Combine that with all the hours spent sitting in a bar, and you get fat.

Theoretically if you exercised enough to burn off all the extra calories, you could drink a lot of beer and it would have little effect on your weight, but between being drunk and having a hangover, heavy drinkers don't usually exercise all that hard or all that long.

At the end of a 3 day bender my trousers used to be hanging off me. You can drink as much as you want without getting fat.

You just can't eat anything while you're doing it.

This would include me then, as I have an aversion to eating when drinking [beer].
    That bloated feeling.

You must have been doing something wrong then. Too slow, too short a time, in an air-con environ, not often enough, etc and still drinking beer and/or eating sugar-added food on top of it.

It worked for me, so it can work for others.

You might comsider that what works for some might not be so right for others.

Sit ups don't make you slim, the diet does. Sit ups just give you a six pack eventually which will show once you've lost the layer of fat that is covering the muscles.

thats sort of the same shit as with "no fat", "low carb" and whatever else...
the resveratrol in the red wine is totally minimal, not worth to speak about...
opc is also only in traces existent...
if you want that stuff, get you a supplement with it...

red wine is N*O*T healthy in any way...
it contains alcohol, which is quite unhealthy.. (for liver, pancreas and whatever else)

if there is anything more or less healthy, then DEFINITELY beer is more healthy than red wine, a good beer, brewed with hops and malt...

I find that drinking Singha does not put weight on me but when i go back to UK for a few months and get stuck into the Guinness i'm ready to burst.

The faster your heart beats the more calories you burn. Cardiovascular exercise like running makes you lose weight. Hitting the weights will bulk you up but they wont slim you down the way you want.

All about basic calories. Caloric intake exceeds output - you store it as fat. Output exceeds intake, you burn fat.

Exercise helps you burn calories and helps strengthen muscles, but you will still get fat if you take in more calories than you burn. That's why so many NFL linemen have such big guts, in spite of being professional athletes (not to mention sumo wrestlers).

Sit ups can help with the protruding gut though. Weak stomach muscles allow your guy to bulge out. Strong muscles hold it in more, so even if you're just as fat, if you have strong stomach muscles, you won't look as fat.

I lost 6.5 kilos on holiday in Thailand and Vietnam. Walked a fair bit in the sun,did not drink much beer and mostly ate the local food. The walking did the job I think,at home I never walk anywhere as I have car. I used to walk a lot before learning to drive and never had an ounce of fat on me. Bad diet in the UK as well, changing that now as I want to lose a bit more weight, not that I look fat, just a bit in the stomach.

Interesting thread and on that affects a lot of male posters here me thinks.

Posters that have met me at most times know I have had a bloated beer gut.

It is easy for me to lose and I can lose it quicky, although I have rarely been motivated to do so.

If I stop drinking beer and drink no alcohol or say, Gin & Tonics, I melt away.

But I also have to avoid white rice and regular eating of white simple carbs (which I almost always have done for a few years).

Add some morning moderate cardio, or HIIT cardio on an empty stomach right after waking up and I melt away.

I have been able to keep drinking beer and lose the gut but it always comes back and the loss of the gut must have been related to no simple carbs, few complex carbs and being able to run a caloric deficit while still imbibing on beer.

As for sit-ups and crunches, yes they are healthy for your core, strong abdominals and obliques but it is not related to losing a beer gut.

No offence, but iv'e never had a beer gut because I would never let myself get like that. Once when I started to put on weight I exercised and watched my diet, as I do now.
As one football personality said and I agree, people who are obese, have no respect for them selves or there parteners.
Now I know there are some who are over weight through a medical a problem or medication, I feel very sorry for them.
