    Funny you should say that.

We were in the chitlom branch yesterday and the mrs was saying that 'for a hi-so supermarket the food is terrible'. She pointed out obviously gone off mince and mouldy veg.

Never had that problem at Villa Ari, everything always seems fresh and decent quality.

    Compared to what, Marmite?

Compared to a good pie, it might not be great (or even good, it has been so long...). Compared to a bowl of chicken noodle soup or somtam, it tastes very good to me...

Bunters make good pies, the steak and ale one is great! I was sad to hear the owner has passed away, I hope they can keep his business going.

Agree But all imports are expensive, still cheaper than a trip to their origin

I agree; Friendship Market is not exactly inexpensive, but most of the American products I see at Villa cost about 6 times more than they do at home in Walmart. It's actually cheaper to eat in a Thai restaurant (find something you can eat) than shop at these over-priced markets.

Tonight I had ham and eggs from the local grill. It was decent and only 49thb. I don't know how they can make a profit.

Regarding Bunter's. The business is already for sale. How do I know this?

A friend of mine who has a Thai/Farang size restaurant goes there once a week for sausage etc. She speaks to the owner often ( her name is Oi ) Only last week she said it's for sale at 25 million bhat....That's right.

    25 MILLION BHAT!

For that, there are two buildings, equipment etc....Those who have been to the shop will know the size of it.

I wouldn't be holding my breath for that kind of cash....Amazing Thailand....

Americans have a longer life expectancy than Thais so that will do for me.

    Dr. Peppers all round.

Went looking for this new Villa this evening. Eventually found it. It's not Soi 112. It's on Ramkhamhaeng Road itself, between sois 110 and 108 in a new shopping development.

The parking is a bit of a problem. Don't follow the (Thai-only) parking signs down soi 110 - they take you a long, long way away - way beyond walking distance. Use the entrance closer to soi 108 which will get you to the multi-storey car park. That said, by about 7 p.m. this evening every space in the car park was full, right up to the roof.

The Villa is looking pretty good - everything fresh and clean. Let's hope it stays that way. Prices still exorbitant, though.

Oh, and at the moment they are giving away free cloth shopping bags as you check out.

I'm considering driving to Villa and risking it being open and then coming back to Foodland if its closed, just for this ^

Well it would depend on how much profit they are bringing in. For that valuation I would expect about 350,000 baht profit per month.

Well I just spent 30 mins driving round soi Phiphat and the ad-joining soi's and I couldn't bloody find it. It's either not 24hour and was hard to spot, closed because its a crap location or in a tower block like the one in Langsuan. Either way its a crap location so I might not bother trying to find it again.

After doing 3 laps of the area I decided to cut my loses and go back to Foddland in Patpong where I started. I got my chicken anyway and its marinading now so I may as well start cooking thread.

As a customer of Bunters I would be surprised if he was taking that much profit.

Speaking of profit. Tonight I am making some deep fried burritos and I needed some cheese and lettuce. I decided to go to Villa and get it all. The cheese was expensive, I knew that before I even went.

However, the lettuce was way to high. Fresh from Ozzie land for only B80 a head. What? I decided to visit the local wet market and get some Thai lettuce for only B20.

Having stated the above I realized that I forgot something. I can take my Honda instead of the car to the markets. About three minutes either way. If a person living in BKK only had a car and the shops were far apart then perhaps they would pay extra for the Ozzie lettuce. Maybe cheaper than gas and time wasted.

I should have mentioned that we are also having Jalapeno poppers tonight.

Our maid from Issan thinks they are to hot...

^ thanks for that; I'm gonna give it a go. If you spend some time searching around Villa, you can get loads of amazing stuff -usually better to be drunk first, and not worry too much about spending 10k on a few bags of snacks, but...
