    Sukhumvit soi 38, Thong Lor

A while ago some hygene obsessed kiljoys stated that this wonderful eating area in Thong Lor's soi 38 would be no more, and they said a shake up of food standards was the reason. So what happened? Not much really, it's just that the pawn shop on the corner wanted some of his space back it seems, cos it's all been shunted down the road a little. Not much at all in fact.

The Chicken satay man is now over the road in a small shophouse.

The som tam is a little further down on the other side too.

My favourite, "Super wok" I call him, as he manages to service the entire area with just one wok and stacks of ingredients. If you want anything stir fried, then he's the man. khao pad gai, Krapow gai khai dao lard kao, pad pakk boong, pad ba-mung gatium, he does it all.

Inside the seating area there are the usual stalls doing yum salads with / without mama, lard na gravy over crispy noodles, moo daeng kai tom lard kao, pad thai and pad se-ewe and a smoothies and drinks area.

Any newbies wanna sample great street food at a forever busy place then I challenge you to come down here and try it.

That area of stalls on Soi 38 is about the best there is on the main Sukhumvit road along with Phra Khanong on Sukhumvit 71 but I find areas like Charoen Krung and Bang Rak are equally good but offer better value.

There's also another guy that does wok stuff between Sukhumvit Soi 20 and 22 but he's rarely there any more.

Over the other side of the main Sukhumvit road under the Thong Lor BTS is another good restaurant, their seafood is excellent and they open late. I've seen some 'famous' Thais in there too.
