    DIY Weber Barbecue?

Saw one of my friends making bread and roast in a Weber barbecue, so now want one myself for our summer residence in Thailand.

Can you buy such a barbecue anywhere or maybe ask someone to make it for a few hundred baht?

45 gal drum sliced in half, lengthways. (remember to take the pluk out if using oxy) A few bits of reo steel for legs, a couple of hinges, a bolt for a handle. Any old crapppy steel for grill wire. Job done.

Naw...don't have to do the 55 gallon drum thing....

Here they have trash barrels that come with a stand and the bottom is made out of metal BUT come with a rubber top. Same shape as as weber.

What you do is get a fellow to shape a top and braze it on the bottom with some hinges....throw in a grate and you done for less than 700 baht.

An important thing to remember though...keep that rubber top!!!!! Get yourself a heavy knife and cut the rubber top into little strips to use as starter for your charcoal.

Once you've started to smell your wonderfully marinaded steaks mixed with the delightful smell of burning rubber, you know you've found a home in Thailand.

Or you could just go out and buy a weber... Check out HomePro

10K is more than they cost here in super-duper expensive Denmark

I'll go for the home build version. Thanks for the construction tips.

True Value in Bangkok sells Webers but not cheap. I bought the basic version for 5,500 baht (normally sells for 6,500 baht but I bought during promotion). I could have bought it in the States for $70 on Ebay. I did buy just about every weber option offered on Ebay and brought them back to LOS a couple of weeks ago.

I also paid 400 baht for a small, DYI BBQ (no top) built in Thailand by a neighbor. I keep that one at my lake house and the weber at my main house.

Will do, but I'm not sure we will manage it this time around - we all know how fast the Thais work

A nice big stainless steel bowl will sit on top of a gas burner or charcoal burner.
A slightly smaller bowl makes a nice raised lid. A simple cake rack or wire frame keeps the food up off the direct heat. Can be used for roasting or hot smoking. Multipurpose items.
