Pooly will be there a bit later.
I haven't made it there yet. Seen it from outside tho
Oh God!!! Not another Welshman!Originally Posted by NickA
And yes, it is a nice little bar. A bit quieter than most, so you can have a nice conversation there if you want.
There's at least 3 on here now (but one is really a Pom, I reckon).Originally Posted by otherstuff1957

Is that welsh? Well I'll be bygro-ed!!!!
There it goes again
I went there an hour ago. Five pool tables, ten single farang guys, twelve-ish hostesses. And for some reason, no music. I didn't stay. I don't really like bars that use hostesses (at least I didn't get a "HELLO, WELCOME!" at the door), especially ones with more hostesses than punters. The place above it looked a bit better.
I'll stick to the nine pool tables and good music at Gullivers soi 5 (although the staff are crap)
Smeggy you just missed me. I left at 8.00.Originally Posted by Smeg
There's always music. Next to the cashier there's a computer with the song library for all to see.
Usually the girls sit at the door and jump up as you climb the stairs and open the doors for you. Prolly with a "Hello Welcome".
There was music when I first arrived, but I didn't go straight in. It stopped before I entered.
Yeah, the door girl did that (but not shouted in normal beer-bar style), but I was stopped at the top of the stairs talking on me mobile at the time, and (after a few seconds, bit slow that one) she shut the door as she realised that I couldn't hear a fergin thing.

Very familiar faces.
Does that happen a lot? Did you check to see if people were hiding under the tables???Originally Posted by Smeg
bloody hell - u reckon gullivers on soi 5 is better venue than after work ??Originally Posted by Smeg
(mind you - the sign outside only calls it Country Road now)
Gullivers is full of hungry hard bitten freelance whores - i cant stand the place. I also dont like the system of one list of names for all the tables - sometimes you just wanna join one table with a few blokes and shoot some pool together - you cannot do that there.
Afterwork (a.k.a - is a great venue - and being as its only about 300 metres from my appartment an excellent location to wonder down for a few beers of an evening!)
No, Gullivers is a great place - probably the best venue in Bangkok. Smeg has excellent taste. No need to try anywhere else Smeg, stay where you are, there's nowhere better.Originally Posted by kingwillyhggtb
I very rarely play pool at Gullivers. If i want to play pool, I usually head to Thai bars with Thai friends.Originally Posted by kingwillyhggtb
Yep, lots of rough whores in Gullivers, but they are easily ignored. I go for the music, footie, and beer prices (70 baht per bottle equates to 2 quid in England, coz i'm on half the salary here, which is an acceptable price)
Are they friends, or staff? To be honest, if it gets to the stage in my life where the only women in a bar who will talk to me are being employed to do so, i'll stop going to bars.Originally Posted by pooly

I use the third floor of Country roads and I'm Welsh....so that should put you fuckers off.....
As for you marmite....you call me a fucking pom again and you'll feel my boot up your lardy forwards arse if we ever meet on a rugby field again....

Now I know you're winding up!!
You'll never hear anything but middle of the road tired 'rock' classics in there.
As for friends Smeg, you'd be best not making comments about others and their relationships.
You're hardly 'Mr Congeniality' yourself.
As usual you miss the point but I think that's your gig in life!
I personally think Gullivers is a rather nice addition to Sukhumvit. I like the size and the free internet, drink prices are good and I do like the girls in there. The staff are terrible, by western standards or about average for Thai standards.
It's good for a beer and a venue to meet up but I'd play pool elsewhere.
Both not bad joints, but Afterwork can be a bit pricey at times.
I'll get the next buy in Wayne!Originally Posted by Wayne Kerr

I thought you had retired from playing rugby as it's too tough for you soft Londoner's frame to play a poof's game like American football.Originally Posted by Bobcock
can't say I'm really a fan of any ex-pat bars or Thai ones really.
The music in Gullivers is mostly fully up to date, including lots of club and dance music.Originally Posted by poolcleaner
My comments about friends was spot on. And I don't look for friends on the net, I look for debate. In my first week in LOS I enjoyed the novelty of girls working in bars coming to talk to me and taking an "interest" in me. Thing is, its their job, they are paid to do that, and I'd only consider them a "friend" if they would come there to talk to me on their day off.....
What was your point? Yep I missed it.
