I ate Mexican food in Los Angeles for many years, and Sunrise Taco's food was quite authentic, and I thought is was pretty good. Like it or not, that's about how Mexican food tastes. It's also useful for a laxative, in that it seems to go right through you, and that is not intended as a disparaging remark about their cleanliness.

Sounds just like the food in some of the "really good" Mexican restaurants I have been told were excellent and "authentic" - Totally overated "cuisine" apart from stuffed jalepeno peppers and the dip at Chico & Charlies in Singapore...

Sunrise is at Suhkumvit soi 12, too bad your experience was mai dee.I've been there many times and have never been disappointed, hey it's not the best Mexican, but WTF, it's in Bangkok. I don't get the best Thai food on Maui, and don't expect to, I just tell them "chue tam hai pet maak maak krap" and it comes out OK. You probably should have just put more salsa, they do have really good salsa. Besides the owner is a nice guy, give them another try I heard they recently got 2 Mexican cooks( ie from Mexico)

My same reaction when facing a steak and kidney pie. Yeech!
Avoid food that you have a cultural aversion to.

I had the enchiladas, which came with a tablespoon of orange rice, with a few peas in it (think those 7-11 microwave dinner things) and this gray kidney bean slop. I kid you not with the gray, the colour was actually fuking gray, and it was slop. about 3 kidney beans mashed in a cup of water, some newspaper thrown in, then left to marinate in week old underpants. Then the enchinladas, fuking hell, i'd rather have eaten my sock.

A serious warning. Avoid at all costs.

On the upside, went for a ride down Nana after and they had a dwarf dressed as an Irish leprechaun sitting outside some Irish place down there. Full orange beard n all.

the plusses and minuses of life I guess.
Be honest, how as it really?

I quite like mexican cuisine every now and again. There are some okay place in Bangkok.

This joke of a place isn't one of them.

Most of the staff are flippers. There are some nice mexican places in BKK.

Besides the owner is a nice guy
He looks like a fat, impolite slob to me. I've twice seen him shouting and berating his staff while training them.

Miguels it called. Open by the guy who set up Mike's Burgers.

The best mexican I've had in Thailand. Nice lay out too.

And not a hint of a taste of boiled sock or underpants like this Sunrise place.

    Could be.

I found the enchilada exactly as described...cardboard.

Coyotes is better, much better, but then so it should be.

Longtime lurker but must respond as I go to Sunrise Tacos at least several times a week.

    I'm
from Texas and I know Mexican food. I've been to every Mexican
restaurant in Bangkok. This is the place to get food that taste good
but yet is at a lowest price. Service is good too. I'm not alone as the
place is often packed and many are the same as me, week after week.

The only thing I don't care for is the carnitas which in my
opinion, is too sweet. The rest though is very good...the barbacoa and
taco al pastor ( al pastor they don't have all the time but when they
do, I load up :-) are my favorites.

Lots of other things to like about this store.
    What my friends
and I like is the fresh salsa bar which is free and I'm not paying 80
baht for additional salsa. Still find it entertaining watching one of
the cook making fresh tortillas. The smell is intoxicating. We like
also the homemade chips they make.

In yesterdays Stickman's weekly article. It showed two of the Mexican chefs that work with them.

I've talked with both Abel and Eligio and its also a good way to brush
up on my Spanish. Eligio ( bald head) is the most friendly of the two.

The guacamole they make is first class. with the homemade chips, downright heaven.

sunrise tacos makes the oldest and worst Taco Bell in the states seem like gourmet food.

Yum Thailand, the owners of KFC, have the rights for Taco Bell in Thailand but they've never had the belief that it would make money here so the franchise goes unused.

They had branches open pre-'97 economic crash.

That put a halt, and rewind on their plans, and they shut up shop. Yet to reopen.

No they did not. Never been here. Years ago we got a third rate chain called Taco Time that went in the Ambassador Mall on Sukumvit. But Taco Bell has never been here.

Believe me I tried. Including going to the corporate headquarters in Irvine Ca. twice.

There has never been a Taco Bell store operating in Thailand.

Taco Time, yes. Taco Bell, No.
